A quick post.

The bee man came bright and early. After a cheerful chat about his recent heart operation and the weather he was soon suited up and clambering onto the roof. Amid much puffing of smoke he carefully removed the Queen and then carefully shepherded the rest of the swarm into two large carboard boxes. Just when I thought it was all over he climbed down, asked for a saw, and was off up the ladder again. Twenty minutes later he was back with three buckets full of honey comb that the industrious little devils had built in the roof eaves. Only one tiny problem - the eight roof tiles that fell to the ground and shattered.

Will post more fully later this morning after Wilf and I track down a builder to cover the hole where the tiles used to be. The look on Wilfs face says it all.

  1. Old houses. Oh dear. I think your blog could prove a useful marketing tool for Stewart Milne....
    Cheers, Gail.

  2. So that's where they went! There's been lots on the news in the last few years abot missing bees. Not enough bees out in the world and it's an environmental problem and worry and no one was sure what happened to all the bees. It seems they've been at your house the whole time! I guess you better call the Discovery Channel and let them know.

    lotsa licks, Lola

  4. This whole thing with the bees was plagued by "Murphy's Law," so something else was bound to happen--I agree that the look on Wilf's face says it all, but I can only imagine what the look (and color) must be on yours...I hope you can get it all fixed before 'the Font and gannets' return!

  6. Oh no! Those bees seem determined to take your whole roof off before they move on!

Wilf should be in movies! That face is classsic. The bee man looks pretty spry for an eighty year old fellow.

  7. We are skeptical of how much honey comb we will find in the walls when we tear our house down. Bees are everywhere going in and out.

  8. It it's not one thing....

    But, is the honey edible???

  9. Ah-ha! No wonder they came back. Did Mr.beeman take the honey comb with him or did you keep the plunder? I'm thinging sweet honey for tea and beeswax candles! Of course both would require a great deal of effort...on 2nd thought - never mind.

  11. Those darn bees have cost you a fortune - first, having to hire someone to remove them, then he falls through the roof, then the bees come back and now you have to replace the roof tiles!

Maybe you could sell some of that honey to recoup the cost?!

I've been hearing about how there aren't any bees around anymore. I think they're all at your house!

  12. Your apiarist has cost you a lot of money and time! Isn't he the same guy who put his foot through the bedroom ceiling last time he visited? No wonder Wilf has "that look" on his face.

Notice that I used my new vocabulary word, learned from you, in my comment!

  14. I can't believe it - I found a bee in my family room today (getting cooler at night and they wanna cuddle inside). Then, this evening I come here and you've got your bee issues again! What is it with those bees? I worry about having them in the house because of the dogs and also my kitties. All I need is for one of them to grab one...
