Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging .

The week started warm and sunny . It ends cold and windy . A chilly three degrees when Wilf heads off for his early morning pit stop. The family fellow is back at the front door in record time a '' Blimey ! That's nippy " look on his face .

To the VW garage to look at a replacement for the rapidly ageing 130,000 mile + dog car . I ask the salesman if there are any special deals because of the slowdown in the economy . He somewhat sniffily informs me that VW doesn't know what a recession is. The phrase ' pride comes before ... ' springs readily to mind .

Across the lane the first of the farmers have arrived to set up the barbecue for tomorrow mornings rugby match between France and New Zealand . A sea of flags, rubber rooster hats, Jack Russells and milling children . Smoke from the charcoal curling into the sky . Ignore the combine harvesters and in the pre-dawn dark it could be a scene out of the middle ages . It's going to be a big party.

' The font ' finds Wilf lying in the downstairs hallway quietly crying . Straight down to the vet . He's given a thorough twenty minute examination . Arthritic paws . They say in humans that the pain is like walking on needles . The vet writes out a prescription for Angastura Vera tablets . It's too early to boost the pain medication . '' That's for a later stage in the journey " . Her answer tells us all we need to know . The joy of having caring professionals to look after him.

Someone has sent ' the font ' a book . ' Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging ' . This is the cause of much hilarity .

  3. So sorry to hear about Wilf's paws.

After reading the title of your post, I was afraid I had stumbled across the blog, 'Wilf the PON discovers Porn'! ;o)

  5. Angus did you know that book has been made into a movie ? I saw it with my kids at a theater here in Lexington a couple years ago. We all loved it. Angus was the cat . It's great for teens . Cathy.

  6. Since I'm always interested in medications for arthritis for our dogs, I looked up Angastura Vera tablets, I like that it's considered a homeopathic remedy--I'll have to keep it in mind. I do hope it helps Wilf to feel better, if it doesn't perhaps the party will!

Now about that book...I would not have thought that was an actual one if I'd not seen it when our 'Border Books' was having their store-closing sale last month. The title is certainly eye catching (!!!) and I almost bought it, but not because of the story, but because of the British slang glossary in the back and because it was 80% off!

  9. Was it the onset of cold weather that exacerbated Wilf's arthritis? Maybe a heating bed for him to rewarm his joints quickly after going out in the cold? I went the homeopathy/ acupuncture route hand in hand with traditional medicine when one of my cats had severe spinal stenosis. The acupuncture really helped.
Feeling helpless in the face of pain is a terrible thing.
Goodness, Angus! For a moment we thought you might have had to adopt a sideline to pay for the mountains of work being done at your house.
    Give Wilf our special love.

  10. Oh, sweet Wilf - perhaps this is a clue to why Cyrano occasionally cries in his crate :(. Will follow up.
You caught us using the title of that book for your entry. LOL. the movie sounds great.
Have a good time with the rugby party. Prayers cont. for all esp. Wilf and his pain.

  11. Laughing at my friend 10NESNE1's hilarious comment!!

Sure hope Wilf's paws feel better. The arrogant attitude at the VW dealer is pretty frustrating!

  13. Aw, Wilfie, if it isn't one thing, its another! I am so happy you have wonderful caregivers and a good vet to go to. I like Kari's idea of some heat to help him through the chilly weather. (It always helps my arthritis)

    Cheers and hugs,

  14. Oh, poor Wilf! I'm so sorry about the arthritis. There are certain bearable aspects to growing older, but pain is a different matter. I hope the medicine does the trick!

When I read the title, I thought maybe you'd finally decided to model for the art class!

  15. I loved the title of your post. Now that I know it's from a book, I think I might just have to go look for it.

I'm so sorry to hear about poor Wilf's arthritis. I don't have it but understand its quite painful. Hope the medicine does the trick.

  16. On TV3 news last night the French captain was asked what he was expecting on Monday morning - his reply “to wake up hung over”.

There will be much partying and drinking in Auckland and around New Zealand before, during and after the 9pm (NZ time) game tonight - twenty countries, 6 and 1/2 weeks of rugby, 48 games and it is down to this - NZ vs France. Luckily tomorrow is an annual NZ public holiday!

Enjoy the festivities in your village, and wear as much black clothing Sunday morning as you dare to.

    Go the All Blacks.

  17. Nothing like excellent, caring vets. Poor Wilf, hope he gets relief from the meds.

Don't know if Oz can overcome its sibling loathing to barrack for the Kiwis; but it's being touted as Oceana vs France here to raise some interest.

  18. It's more like walking on a bed of sharp nails, not needles. So sorry Wilf has a new source of pain; hope the meds help. Moist heat might also help. Hugs to Wilfie; a stiff scotch for Angus & the font.

Off to Amazon to check out Angus' new book :)
