Mischief undimmed .

Life with an old blind diabetic dog is rather like life with a toddler . Rule #1 : Wherever you go he goes . Rule #2 : Always remember to allow an hour and a half between pitstops .

We've now got into a routine where every afternoon , when its not raining, thirty minutes is set aside to take Wilf somewhere new and different for a walk . Although he can't see anything the opportunity to discover fresh scents and smells keeps him busy and his mind occupied . Yesterday he was lifted into the back of the car and driven five hundred yards to the old farmers vineyard . For a full forty five minutes he wandered down the rows of vines head down , remaining nostril working overtime . The onset of selective deafness when called to get back in the car . It's good to see him like this . Aches and pains forgotten , mischief in play again . Finally home he settled down on my gardening shoes and slept , immovable , for an hour . Happy exhaustion.

Into the local market town with Wilf and ' the font ' to do some shopping . In the small kitchen store a display of rather stylish etched glass bowls. . The owner of the store seemed surprised , and then disbelieving, when the ' font ' points out they were made in England by the Emma Bridgewater company . Style and English apparently incompatible .

  1. What a wonderfully happy image you've given me of Wilf sniffing his way through the vineyards!

  2. Why is it that selective deafness is a trait treated with tolerance in an older dog, but strongly disapproved of in a young one?
    It's not fair.

  9. I immediately oooed and aahed over that etched glassware!

I love hearing that Wilf has such great outings, and enjoys them so much. I learned earlier this year with Morgan that it's not enough to just wear her out physically, we have to exercise her Shepherd brain, too! It makes for much better rest for all when we get home!

  14. Nothing like the odor of old shoes to serve as a dessert to that smorgasbord of scents in the vineyard. No wonder Wilf was so content!

And after the year 1066, there's always been a bit of French style in English design. :)

  17. What thoughtful planning to give Wilf pleasant outings and a well-earned rest afterwards.

Can't tell whether the fruit is real or fake, but France either has the biggest strawberries or the smallest citrus we've ever seen. We're guessing it's fake fruit; no one in their right mind would put citrus fruit on top of strawberries. On the other hand, it all looks luscious.
