String vests .

It's still raining . The centre of town a hive of muted Monday morning activity . A small crowd of beret wearing tradesmen standing under the dripping arcades . Each of them noisily providing his own analysis of yesterdays election results . A phalanx of shoulder shrugs, arm waving and pouts . Textbook Gallic body language . Wilf settles down under a table for his half croissant. The plumber buys Angus a coffee. '' I'll be out to see you later this week " . Angus smiles . The waitress tells Wilf he's looking very handsome this morning . Wilf smacks his lips.

Local white asparagus in the greengrocers. The height of the season . Wilf waits at the shop door while Angus buys a kilo. '' Picked fresh this very morning " says the greengrocer . A lady in a bright red headscarve with a matching string shopping bag talks merrily away to Wilf .

Back to find the old farmer working on his motorhome. Angus waves and says ' Bonjour '. Our neighbour looks up . '' What's good about it ? If that lot get in I might as well go and live in North Korea " . Someones clearly not happy with the election results . Angus wonders how many North Koreans wear string vests. Wilf , unbothered by such things, heads off to christen the fire hydrant .

  1. So this blog continues its mission to disabuse the world of the notion that all French people are naturally chic, elegant and fashionable....

  2. Politics- can't please everybody.

Wilf's hair looks so cool in this post. Bet that asparagus was delicious!

  3. Will the plumber get there? Will the old farmer move to North Korea? Stay tuned for another episode of provincial french living.

  5. I guess some things are the same around the world. Election results sounds like one of them! At least Wilf isn't bothered by such things.

  7. Oh, the unadulterated joy of being oblivious to politics. As a foreigner about to move there, I can't say I entirely disagree with the farmer, but we'll see what happens. Hugs to our beautiful Wilf.

  8. I sorely need to adopt Wilf's nonchalance concerning elections.
    And eat more croissants.

  10. That's the way to look at life, just carry on, eat croissants and asparagus and christen tires. Nice! Keep on going Wilf!

  11. Funny, no one around here dares to talk politics anymore. It's too dangerous. But, the preseident is coming to a town near us, and the Runner got a single ticket as a perk of his job. Regardless of whether anyone agrees about his policies, I think that we can all agree that he's an eloquent speaker.

I think that Wilf is looking tres handome today too!

  12. Man, it seems to be raining all over the world - or at least everywhere we have blogging friends.

At least in France, the election fight will be over soon. We've got another 5+ interminable months and all the negative ads the Super PACs can afford to buy. No opinions expressed locally on the FN getting over 18% of the vote? Seems like that ought to be a bit of a concern.

    Does Wilf like asparagus?

  13. The dividing line between politics and culture is blurred so at this end of the world. Our issues: e-toll demonstrations, corruption, rhino poaching, service delivery, traffic congestion, unemployment, poverty, water issues, etc, etc. Everyone is affected....except, of course:

"King Toffee", Toby and Aunt Tam.
    They firmly on Wilf's side.
