How to get a cup of coffee .

Back from a grey and cloudy Vienna to find that Madame Bay has taken a shine to the tall painter . In between hoovering and dusting our saintly septaguenarian takes him out not one , but two , cups of coffee . Over lunch I comment on this miraculous transformation . ' The font ' somewhat cynically suggests that perhaps all the workmen should learn to work shirtless .

The painter is currently managing to take down , sand , and then re-hang three shutters a day . It's not an easy job and at this rate it will be the end of the month before he starts putting on the undercoat . The good news is that depite two and a half centuries of neglect all of the woodwork is in good order . I'd expected him to tell me that half of the shutters would need to be replaced .

Wilf spends much of his day in the cool of the kitchen . He is particularly interested in the preparation of the Escalope Milanaise a la Parmesane . He sits transfixed , a look on his face that says : " If you have knowledge , let others light their candles in it " .

  6. Wouldn't new shutters be a disaster! The very thought! Work seems to be progressing in a timely fashion. We are thrilled to hear Mme Bay and the painter are simpatico. Happy workers do a better job. Your shutters will gleam and your house sparkle.
How did you become so wise, little PON? And why can't we humans do it? Goodness! I've answered my own question.

  9. Ruh roh, I hope that all the workers don't figure out this technique or no work will ever be accomplished in your house! Perhaps Madame Bay is slowing the shutter progress :)

  10. Well, shirtless painters obviously deserve extra coffee! Perhaps he can get a second job moonlighting as a model for the ladies' drawing class.

I'd be very interested in the preparation of that food, too! Wilf is no fool!

  11. If the painter feels the same way, your shutters may never be finished, but your home may be spotless--Or on the flip side if Madame Bay decides she doesn't like him, your house may never be cleaned while he's there...

Thank-you for the kind thoughts for Hamlet. We'll be saying our goodbye's Friday morning.

  12. Wilf has decidedly settled that being in the kitchen, the hub of the house, is THE most important of all. Smart boy!! Funny how our dogs tend to tuck themselves away into the corner of the kitchen as well....just waiting for things to drop!! Keep on going Wilf, lovely boy!

  13. Uh, the kitchen floor - is it tile? I have vinyl in my DR that looks exactly like it sans Wilf. Good taste. Smart Wilf :).

  14. Why would the painter re-hang the shutters before the painting is complete? Seems like it would make more sense to just take the shutters to a workshop or a barn, sand, prime and paint both sides on all of them and then re-hang all of them. Good to know Wilf is still enjoying the font's haute cuisine.
