Wilfs olympic gold medal .

Recovery from the storm . 58 millimetres ( 2 1/4 inches ) of rain in an hour according to the local radio . By late afternoon ' the font ' and a turbaned Madame Bay have brought some semblance of order to the downstairs bedrooms . This is where the landslide of mud and gravel that ran down the hill forced its way through the patio doors into the house . Yours truly has less luck with the pool house. No sooner have I bailed it out than it mysteriously fills up with water again . Through it all General de Gaulle continues to work away at the shutters .

Unbothered by this human activity Wilf sleeps , curled up in his bed , soundly and unconcernedly . The 'books' told us that blind dogs sleep a lot . They are right. Sometimes it seems that Wilf is training for an olympic gold medal in dozing - anytime, anywhere, anyplace . Thankfully, that old PON mischief hasn't quite gone . On his morning walk he wanders into a small lake that's formed in a dip in the road . On his way back he ' accidentally' wanders through it again . " Sometimes mistakes are too much fun to only make once ".

  1. Whatever that is fun is most truly worth a second or third time :) Our love to the olympic trainee.

  2. Wilf walking through the puddle twice reminds me of years ago when we had a blind poodle. We weren't aware she was blind until we were in the process of moving and stayed in a motel for a bit.

While at this motel, I had taken the dog out for a walk along a nearby trail. All was well until the dog mysteriously JUMPED into the pond next to it. Shocked, I quickly pulled her out of it. She just as quickly jumped back in! I pulled her out again and took her back to the room. I don't think my mom believed me when I told her the dog jumped in but it's the truth! I wouldn't walk her after that. I don't remember her jumping in the pond for anyone else though.

  4. Our new furry chap jumped in the canal a couple of days ago, his head disappeared under the water and I feared the worst, until he re-appeared like an olympic swimmer, and proceeded to do a couple of turns until we eventually dragged him out.

  11. Years ago, when our old chow chow, Zubin, went blind, he did sleep an awful lot. And when awake, he was incredibly sweet. But his enmity towards cats remained.

  12. You can always see the mischief just under the surface when you look at him! I'm glad the morning's chaos didn't upset the old fellow.

What a mess you must have! I'm so sorry! Mother Nature isn't always kind. I hope you get it all sorted out soon!

  15. I had no idea that things had gone so bad for you in the storm. I'm so sorry! What a terrible birthday present for The Font. Were you able to salvage the things you cared about? Horrible thing to have happened. Where I used to live, houses would slide down the hills during the rainy season. Hope your are safe from having your neighbors drop in unexpectedly, if you know what I mean. Hoping, as well, the baby bats survived. You'll need all of the luck and fortune you can get putting things right.

When vision is low, tactile experiences take vision's place. It must have been delightful for Wilf to feel the rain water. Maybe a nice wooly sheepskin to roll on would also delight. Love to all.

  16. Hmm... time to build a retaining wall? Any chance one of the old, abandoned septic tanks is feeding water into your pool house? Or maybe just a good drainage ditch is required? Regardless, sounds like a lot of hard labor will be required. Good luck finding some hard laborers.

We're pretty sure Wilf knew exactly where to splash and enjoyed every minute of it. We would have. Glad to see he's still seizing the day.
