The grandmother clock .

After an absence of three months the old Swedish grandfather clock has returned . The repairer arrived in his van , unannounced , at ten on Sunday morning . '' I was just passing " he said as if this somehow explained why he hadn't telephoned to warn us of his plans beforehand .Twenty minutes of tinkering and it bursts into life . A happy crash of cogs, weights and bells. The repairman collects his cheque and goes.

The wisened old thing now marks the hours with an unexpectedly high pitched doink, doink, doink . Its chimes have risen by the better part of two octaves and now sound more like an irate Swedish grandmother than a Swedish grandfather . Wilf spends much of his morning lying by it . The excitement of unexpected visitors has quite worn him out .

  5. Beautiful clock, elegant and white, not the sort we have in France, lovely, but sometimes too dark.

Love the photos of Wilfee on the floor, he seems to be a happy dog ! But what about his hair ???

Have a beautiful Monday Wilfee's family. Bisous and amitiƩs.

  6. How very interesting that the clock's chimes have risen almost two octaves and that the repairman just happened to be passing with a rather large antique clock in the back of the van. Oh, well, the clock is home. It's ticking may be soothing to Wilf, less so it's voice, we might think. It's hard to believe Wilf is so ill. He always looks so marvelous. Wish I could say that about myself. Love to all.

  7. Life in rural France always sounds like an adventure! I wonder who gets up and says to himself, "I think I'll just go take a drive with an antique clock in my van." I wonder how the clock got its new high-pitched voice...

  8. Your home is so comfortably elegant - I find it inspiring - if I could only afford Wegman Crypton covers (a dream of mine) for the dog beds which now make up most of the furniture here - my home may seem elegant, also :). Love Wilf's mohawk do in the second photo.

  9. Quite frankly, Wilf matches that clock's color scheme. He is also probably enjoying the cool floor on his tummy.
