Equilibrium found.

After a miserable morning spent looking glum,Wilfs stomach finally settled down and he was as bright as a daisy by dinner time. Thanks for all your comments and advice. I'm afraid that the most probable reason for the recurrent upsets is the after effects of the fox poison left outside our front door in Italy. The tasty, but lethal, chicken treats provided by the hunters nearly did for him. As a result there must be some residual organ damage although a bevy of tests and scans hasn't found anything other than some liver and prostate impairment. Somethings you just have to live with.

To take his mind off things we went for four long walks. I find that if he's occupied he doesn't seem to feel the discomfort. Brisk walks also help him sleep solidly. Yesterdays view from the lane across to the Pyrenees and the Spanish frontier was simply stunning.

  1. Glad you are feeling better Wilfee! Hopefully someone will shed some light from the blogland on your condition and you will not have to suffer it all the time. Have a wonderful day ahead.

  5. Oh, we had a dog who'd been poisoned as a pup. Well, rather my family did. I wasn't here yet. Or born yet. Anyhoo, she was a big mutt who looked like she could wolf down anything, but she always had a delicate digestive tract. She did OK, though, and lived to a respectable old age and felt fine most of the time. I hope Wilf is feeling his best self now.

    lotsa licks, Lola

  6. That's just awful about the poison. You have to be so careful these days not to let them pick up anything off the ground. Hope Wilf feels better soon.

  9. To bad for Wilf. Dogs are always eating things they shouldn't. Glad he's better.

  10. Fox poison, that's terrible. I'm glad that he survived. I'm also very glad to hear that he is feeling better now.

I've come to believe that K's pancreas problems stem from a severe case of mushroom poisoning when she was a young dog. So, perhaps these two dogs are more similar than we think.

You asked about bow hunting on my blog. Yes, for every hunted species, there are a few weeks when hunters stalk them with bows and arrows. One thing about living in the "wild west" of the US is that hunting is a way of life as are weapons at all times of the year. I try not to rant about it because it's simply a part of life here for the old-timers and their offspring but I secretly rant in my mind every time I see a weapon or hunter.

I hope that Wilf remains feeling good.

  11. I'm glad Wilf is feeling better. Our Corgi Miss Betty suffers from irregularity frequently. My wife says its because she is of Royal blood but I say its because of the not so Royal treats she feeds her.

  12. As was the case with Edward, probiotics were very helpful with my Gizmo's sensitive tummy. Feel better, Vilfy!

  13. I'm glad he's feeling better. And I'm glad he's got you to take care of him. Sometimes you just need to know that there is someone there when you're not feeling your best!

  15. That's horrible Wilf was poisoned by fox poison left on your doorstep.

Walks are a good therapy for both ends of the leash!
