The monkey and the organ grinder .

As far as Wilf is concerned there is one thing even more devilish than the vacuum cleaner . The power washer . Demonic noises and water in tandem . How evil is that ? While yours truly blasts the moss off the pool tiles with a cloud of super-pressurised spray , Wilf heads to the safety of the kitchen . Grosses crevettes au pavot et au miel for lunch today . He lies in his alloted place in front of the stove , silently following each movement , the occasional twitch of his fringe indicating ' perhaps a little more salt ? ' . PON gourmand .

The family fellow deigns to leave the kitchen to join me for a post- breakfast trip into town . A bright ' Bonjour Wilfee ' from the local beer and absinthe set as he slides under the table with a bowl of water . Then it's off to the garden centre for a matching , twelfth, geranium before detouring to the bakers. We're late this morning. The remaining offerings decidedly limited . A difficult choice between the raspberry and chocolate bombe and the profiterole cake. The bombe wins the day. Back home and Wilf scurries off to join ' the font ' in the kitchen . Zero chance of him working with me in the garden while lunch is being prepared . As he heads off to the kitchen he turns back with a look that seems to say : " Never hold discussions with the monkey when the organ grinders in the room ".

  1. Mmmmm, I've just taken a long hard look at those cakes! I think you made a wise choice (although that cheesecake looks particularly delicious too).

Can you really blame Wilf for abandoning you in favour of 'er in the kitchen?

    x (for Wilf!)

  2. We are curious to know how a perfect match was ensured. Did you take along a geranium petal? A photo? Rely on the font's superior memory for exact shades of red? We do hope it's now OK!!

  3. I was wondering how long it was going to take before you had to replace that geranium! :)

  5. Myself, I think I would have gone for the strawberry gateau at the back....yum yum. So pleased that Wilf is taking it easy ;-). As Bertie said, lets hope that the geranium matches up! S x x

  6. I am with Stormy. I think you aught to compile a calendar " The thoughts of Wilf" accompanied by a gorgeous shot of 'Wilfee' himself.

  8. Supervising culinary endeavours is a priority!

    XXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella

Chocolate bombe--whatever happened to 'the font's' get-a-bike campaign?

  9. Laughed out loud when I read Bertie's comment as those were exactly my thoughts. Just picturing you with a "petal" in your pocket this morning Angus. And Buzzy McDuff said to tell Wilf he hates the vacuum monster too!

  10. Wilfee, you are so wise!! Our gang would rather stay in the kitchen than help power-wash. Someone might get their feet wet and we can't have that.

  11. Ha ha! I see you caved to the demands of Madame Bay and got red geraniums. I guess there's nothing like a dog to remind you about the family hierarchy!

  13. So Wilf's nose is guiding him where his eyes can no longer see.

Those crevettes must have smelled delicious too!!

  14. I read your title, "The monkey and the organ grinder," and thought immediately that this post was going to be about M'Ongoose and 'The Font.' Wilfee confirmed this with his proper context.

I do hope that you never try to carry a raspberry and chocolate bombe aboard an airliner...

  15. I'm catching up on blogs during my lunch break--While you lunched on Prawns (??) I had a frozen meal and a bag of cookies--I wonder what Monsieur Strauss-Kahn was served at Rikers Island?

I hope it's been another enjoyable day for you!

  16. My favorite place is the kitchen too!! Not just to cook :) but if I had to choose between the kitchen and the bakery, I'd gladly stay in that bakery wistfully thinking how I could each and every one of those tortes without gaining an ounce....what a lovely display! And Wilf, handsome and clever as always..keep on going Wilf!!

    With love your Canadian pals,

  17. I rather like the idea of an odd geranium. One that doesn't quite match. Although I dare say one wouldn't want to be the cause of the village not winning the prettiest village award!

I jest! I jest! And, I sympathize. I planted 6 rhododendron. 5 of which are white, and one of which is pink!

  18. Well, if your village doesn't win, it won't be your fault now will it.
I have quite an intrusive question: when you buy all of these delightful baked goods, do you and the font eat the whole thing or do you just have a simple slice and toss away the rest? The fact that you can still fit into the clothes of a "younger Angus" intrigues me no end. Have you discovered some amazing secret of metabolism? Do tell!

  20. I think I would weigh 500 pounds or more if I went to that bakery regularly. I don't know how you manage to choose just one thing. I would want them all.

  21. Those are limited offerings at the bakery???? They look great to me. I'm with Wilf. I'll stay close to the food rather than the power washer!
