Mighty forces .
Wilfs daily routine. Conversation with the waitress. Illicit half croissant. Christening of the box hedge around the war memorial. Home for a morning doze. Lunchtime bark at the post lady. A nap in the back of the car while ' the font ' goes shopping . Afternoon walk by the stream . Forty winks on the terrace before dinner . Snuggled up asleep by ten .
He 's getting smaller . The muscle around his shoulders almost gone . This week the bloods returned . Starting to stumble as he walks . We check his eyes and gums. We worry . He thinks this ridiculous. What's the point ? He gets on with enjoying life . The capacity to generate laughter burning as bright as ever . Somehow dogs know better than humans - "Be bold - and mighty forces will come to your aid ".

A wonderful routine. Wilf says, "what? me worry?!"
ReplyDeleteI love the last photo. An incredible pup who has had an extraordinary life! If you listen closely, I bet you can hear him laughing! ;)
ReplyDelete..and so they will....stay strong....xx
ReplyDeleteDear Wilfy, these humans eh? Gail is saying "but how could they not worry?" but us dogs know much that they don't.
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.
Fun and magic in a small furry package.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is definitely laughing in the last photo. Little man, you are mighty force in all our lives.
ReplyDeleteWilf and buttercups - love is all around - stay strong and happy - bacetti sul nasino - love from Susanne, Daizy, Foxiie and Kiri
ReplyDeleteI'm being bold and counting on those forces Wilf...
ReplyDeleteWe worry too. How not? It's part of the love and laughter equation.
ReplyDeleteGentle scritches...
May the Force be with you, Dearest Wilf...DBH
ReplyDeleteWe cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy.

I love the every day routine of Wilf's life. Everyone should have such a zeal for life and open spirit!
ReplyDeleteBeloved dogs-part of the package deal with having them in our lives is worrying about them. Luckily the other parts are tending to their every need, loving them and being loved back in return. The Campbell quote is perfect.
ReplyDeleteIn every day, one must find some joy - even if it is only one small bluebird.
ReplyDeleteAs long as we continue to have breath in us, we shall carry on! Well done Wilf, clever fellow. And you have the cutest front fringe this morning!!! Keep on going Wilf, darling boy!
ReplyDeleteWith love from your Canadian pals,
Dianna along with Tor, Willow and Tucker
The message is bittersweet today. It makes me smile, but brings me close to tears...we bloggers seem to be drawn here daily to read only happy news of Wilf and the mighty spirit in him that tackles each new day with zest...it's hard to take the stumbles with the boldness....such is life for all.. {{hugs for Wilf}} feel better! Life is what you make of it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy these days together!
ReplyDeleteGood night sweet Wilfee, you are in my heart. Stay strong sweet boy ! Bisous mon tendre.
ReplyDeleteDogs like Wilf really do know better than we do--I just wish I could be as unafraid as they are about what's to come.
ReplyDeleteThe happy prince. Beautiful pictures of Wilf. Thank you so much for sharing him with the world.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful hair today. Wilf's following Billy Crystal's advice "it is better to look good then to feel good and he looks Marvelous."
ReplyDeleteWhat a good dog.
ReplyDeleteThe description of Wilfie slowly melting away is haunting. Jed has a generalized autoimmune condition that manifests itself in different ways. In the past few month, he has developed [inter alia] MMM - the atrophy of his head and facial muscles. His dear face is now skull draped in skin and fur, angular and wizened. Thus our particular sense of kinship with Wilf, who is also shrinking in the flesh but never in the spirit.

I can only mirror what Julie said...and send love and prayers continually. All these marvelous days have been such an enormous blessing....if only....
