Not the wisest of moves .
Another chilly morning . The geraniums on the terrace looking less than pristine . Next year Angus will definitely remember not to plant them out until the 1st of May .
The first round of the French Presidential elections less than a week away . The billboards in the marketplace festooned with posters. None of them have been defaced . The possible exception being that for the far right candidate . Her poster has simply disappeared .
In the cafe all eyes turned to the early morning news broadcast . The King of Spain is in trouble. While the Spanish government has been implementing widespread spending cuts the King has been away in Botswana shooting elephants. A luxury holiday , combining private jets and slaughtering innocent animals , not the wisest of moves while hospital closures are being announced .
The waitress chats happily away to Wilf as she feeds him his half croissant . I ask her what happens to the other half . '' It's the barmans breakfast . But he never finishes it " . Cynics might wonder if he gets the chance .
A trip to the bakers then home to find Madame Bay hard at work . Two days in a row. She bustles past me . Her unmistakeable hyperactive mode . '' So many pillow cases . So many pillow cases ". Unsure how to reply Angus and Wilf close the door to the office . While Angus writes, Wilf sleeps.

And there was I, thinking that today's title referred to an unfortunate choice of gateau....
ReplyDeleteMystery solved. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI always wondered about the other half...
ReplyDeleteSounds like the Spanish King deserves censure. We've always wondered about the other half of the croissant.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy,Bella & Roxy
We'll have a couple of Baba au Rhum, please.
Your mention of the defacing political posters reminded me of 4 years ago when my nephew, then 8 years old, was standing in line for lunch at school with his friends and drew a mustache on a Barack Obama poster--He was expelled for a day. My brother, not upset in the least, and saw the humor in the whole event--He's a Republican.
ReplyDeleteBut I do think it was probably wise of you and Wilf to 'hide' in the office.
Sometimes it's better to just lay low! Perhaps it's best not to know about the pillow cases.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the King of Spain!
I read that King Carlos is now
ReplyDeletein hospital having had hip
replacement surgery as the
result of a fall on stairs
in Botswana. Justice? Of
course, all that is no doubt
at government expense.

Ah yes, while Pamela writes, Edward sleeps.
ReplyDeleteAs to the Spanish King.... not the wisest move no matter what.
Shooting elephants? Fie on him.
Next life I will reincarnate as a dog in a smilar household - not to deal with cleaning ladies is a big bonus - love from Southern Italy Susanne,Daisy, Foxiie and Kiri
ReplyDeletei do not like rich, ignorant kings who shoot elephants for fun.
ReplyDeletei'm glad he broke his stupid hip. justice indeed.
showing my dark side here i guess.
but my light side loves the pictures of french delights and the
perfect little face of my favorite wee bear!
so glad angus writes!

Those cakes look delicious! I bet Wilf thinks so too! ;) So glad the barman is sharing his breakfast, otherwise what would Wilf have for it? Beautiful pictures today! Keep on going Wilf!
ReplyDeleteWith love from your Canadian pals,

I am in fervent prayer today that it was an elephant who actually pushed King Carlos down the stairs. Bad man...good Karma at work.
ReplyDeleteIt's so very kind of the barman to share his croissant with the wee bear so many mornings. I'm sure his hips will be safe for the rest of his lifetime. :-)
No description today of Madame Bay's get-up? One of the things I look forward to in Wilfee's blog! Sounds like our little gent is doing OK and thats all we really need to know.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
I was thinking about you this morning while K and I were on our morning outing in the forest. I heard her breathe a little louder than usual, had a moment of panic, and then calmed myself down. That happened too many times to count (I think that it was just my imagination). I wondered how you had become so calm and content. Your stories emanate contentedness...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that the barman doesn't have a good appetite for breakfast.
Finally, the mystery of the other half solved. It's plain to see many of us have wondered. Wilf looking particularly gorgeous today. And what kind of a person wants to shoot an elephant?
ReplyDeleteWe're womdering who is sitting on the pedestal in front of the market place.
ReplyDeleteScritches to Wilf.
