The laughter still flowing .

For Wilf another day spent dozing in the shade of the cherry trees. Salmon for lunch and chicken for dinner . In fact two helpings of chicken for dinner. A walk to the stream .He falls asleep with his head resting on ' the fonts ' foot . A little coconut ice cream as a treat before he settles down for the night . He hears the fridge door open and is miraculously standing in the middle of the kitchen floor. Sprightly and beaming .

His breathing rougher this morning . He can't find his way to his food or the water bowl as easily as he did before last weeks scare. ' The font ' will take him to the vet today to have his lungs checked and make sure there's no pain. There's something deeply right about this unhurried journey but we want to be certain his days remain gentle. Difficult to say who's happier about this extended farewell . Dog or owner . The laughter still flowing . A small canine triumph .

  1. Mmmm. Coconut ice-cream. Perhaps it should be available on the NHS.

  2. Oh my goodness, another moving update. There is something incredibly right about the way you are handling this situation for WIlf. He knows he can trust you I am positive. Part of the reason he is so strong and the whole reason he is still so content is because he is so well loved. Louise.

  6. It's the coconut ice-cream - who wouldn't want to be around for as long as possible when it is on the menu.

  8. Sorry to hear that his breathing was troubled yesterday. I hope it will be better today.
He does look better in the pictures, although to me, his look is one of concern for you. It's as if he is saying 'come on, don't worry so, I am having a fine old time'. The last one is particularly lovely.
I wish you all a wonderful day.
    Kisses for that precious nose.
    xx

  13. I felt so happy when I read the title of your blog today, I knew Wilf was having a good day. Loved reading about Wilf coming back and standing the kitchen. That was so special.

Just wish there was no reason for him to visit the vet today. Wish you would give us an up date today about what the vet said.

Please, make sure that you don't run out of chicken and coconut ice cream for our polar bear.

Wilf enjoy the sun and all your treats today.

Sending love and big hugs to you.

  14. I'm happy that Wilf is living the unhurried life and happiness pervades your family.

I asked my vet about pain from lung tumors. She said that there is almost never pain - just difficulty breathing (which will be extremely obvious when it's bad enough to bother a dog). Just thought you'd be interested to hear that... we are both asking the same questions of our vets.

I'm about to take a blogging break for a trip but I'll be thinking of you.

  17. Too right, as long as there is no pain, let the days flow gently. Perhaps a steroid for his breathing to lessen the labouring. Let's hope tomorrow's update is still as wonderful...

    Keep on going Wilf!

  21. The food! That's the thing! Why continue the journey right now when there are so many delicious foods to be savoured. Reminds me of my father.

Hoping the lungs clear. Not being able to breath comfortably is very uncomfortable and frightening.
Our love and prayers are with you all.

  27. Remember? Dylan Thomas wrote "Do not go gently into the night..." And yet this gentle journey of Wilf's makes much more sense, with laughter and love surrounding him ... the taste of sweet coconut ice cream on his tongue and enticing smells from the font's magic kitchen.

Do go gently, dear Wilf, linger pain free to share more love and laughter. This is our prayer.

    xxx Joan
