Why is it ?

The Saturday night rugby match between Ireland and France cancelled two minutes after the scheduled kick-off time . The pitch in the Paris stadium frozen hard as iron . 80,000 disappointed fans . Here, on top of the ridge, it falls to minus sixteen again. This morning more white vans outside the chateau. More men in blue overalls standing around. The burst pipes clearly a major problem.

' The font ' , busy at work in the town hall archives , unearths a letter written by the villagers in 1776 to the Kings representative in Toulouse . A protest against high taxes .'' Pourquoi donc est-ce que ce sont les riches qui payent les moins et les pauvres qui payent le plus ? " - Why is it the rich pay less and the poor pay more ? The 99% conversing as lucidly then as today .

Wilf has problems on our morning walk . The path in front of the church turned into an ice rink. He's usually so sure of himself that it's easy to forget that the old fellow can't see. He slips, falls on his chin, then picks himself up and turns towards me . That trusting ' you lead , I'll follow ' look . A blind dogs eyes so expressive . As he gingerly picks his way home an old Scots line of poetry comes to mind : " Love is not blind; it is an extra eye, which shows us what is most worthy of regard ' .

  1. Very true words from Wilf, and again remind us that the 'eyes' truly are the window to the soul.

Speaking of soul...Interesting letter. I would love to know what or if there was a response from the King's representative. The answer may explain more clearly why that still occurs today. And what a coincidence that it was written the same year as the Declaration of Independence....

  4. Bursting pipes can be a great equalizer. Doesn't
matter whether you're in the 1% or the 99%,
still creates one hell of a mess. Of course, not
too many of us would be worrying about the collapsed
ceiling of the ballroom in our summer residence.

Have to confess to a little long-distance schadenfreude.

  6. Poor Wilf took a bang to the chin! Let's hope the old fellow is okay! Perhaps a full croissant will do the trick to set things right? Keep on going Wilf!

  8. Wilf's trust in you is so touching yet so expected given your relationship. You are his extra eye.

  9. i've been wondering if the snow made it harder for him to know where he is going. harder to track a scent? yet with their amazing noses, even wilfee's little half nose working, he no doubt can smell things buried way under the snow!
walking on the slippery ice is a whole other thing. not fit for man nor beastie!
such extremes we're having this year, seemingly all over the world. hoping granny font in london is faring well.
stay warm dear hearts, stay warm!

  15. How sad that some things never change, i.e. more taxes paid by the poor than the rich!

  16. Why is it after so much time, so many revolutions, so much effort, nothing really changes?

So sorry for Wilf's fall. Hope he didn't hurt himself. At least the village should be getting supplies in now. And Spring will come. It always does.

  19. I wonder if the billionaire hired plumbers from outside the village and if that has any effect on their work ethic...

Sorry about Wilf's spill! Hopefully he's feeling better today and has already forgotten about it!
