Sprats and Banana Splits .

Another sunny day. In the garden the snow damaged shrubs slowly coming back to life . ' The font ' spots Sprats at the fishmongers. Angus is unimpressed . He wanders off to the cafe with Wilf. Time to have a coffee and ponder what it is with Scandinavians and fish .

New, laminated, menus in the bar. Must be going upmarket . Too early to have an early morning Banana Split ? Not often you see them on menus these days. The waitress gives Wilf his illicit half croissant . Angus decides against the Banana Split. Maybe if we go back in the afternoon ? Wilf settles down under the banquette for a nap. By the time ' the font ' rejoins us he's snoring away .

A caravan appears in the old farmers driveway. Its left wheel at a jaunty , gravity defying, angle . At least 15 degrees off true. '' Getting ready for the holidays " the farmer shouts out, eager to share his happiness. Today he's wearing black track suit bottoms, open toed sandals without socks , a red check shirt and, despite the warmth, a large, faux fur, Russian style hat . Angus looks at the caravan and wonders if it will make it as far as the layby at the top of the road. Best to say nothing .

For dinner Wilf has sprat filet on his kibbles. Afterwards a little coconut ice cream. He licks his nose and falls asleep. Yes, dogs can smile. Angus has a steak .

  1. I think that, like Wilf, the farmer lives a charmed life.

I am wondering if the appeal of banana splits has lessened as memories of rationing in Europe fade away and we are losing the generation that did not take the availability of bananas for granted?

I'm sure your readers will have other theories.

    Cheers, Gail.

  2. We reckoned Wilf would like a Sprat or two, because we love fish.

  3. Banana split for breakfast...sounds good to me. I'm with you on the sprats, too. But, like Wilf, our two furries love them, and anything fishy at all, as a matter of fact. Wilf looking devastatingly handsome today.

  5. Maybe next time 'the font' is out of town, you can have that banana split for breakfast. :-)

I totally agree, dogs do smile and Wilf has a lot to smile about!

  6. I wonder, has the old farmer been reading the Wind in the Willows?

  7. I'd be with you in choosing steak over sprat! There's really no bad time for a banana split, either.

This is another time when I wish so badly that I could see what someone is wearing! I'm afraid I'd have laughed out loud over the hat!

  8. i think the font was secretly thinking how wilfee deserved sprat on his kibbles!
i have often had a banana split for breakfast. since i've been grown up i tend to eat exactly what i want for breakfast. sometimes cold lasagne. oh no! giving away my less than sophisticated culinary palate here.
thanks for sharing your technicolor world and the greatest little chappy of all with us.
    love and happy hugs,

  9. I was imagining what the font would have said about a banana split for breakfast too... Wilf would have love to help with it.

Dogs seem to smile every day, and they make me smile.

  14. The only sprat I know is Jack, and not personally either! ;) Wilf is looking very regal in the pics today! Perhaps there will be a post of a sharing of an illicit banana split next? Keep on going Wilf!

With love from your Canadian pals,
