Batallions .

Another shutter rattling storm raging in the Bay of Biscay . Winters howling batallions barreling towards us from the Nantucket Shoals . One gale immediately followed by another . Boston to Bordeaux in 72 hours picking up rain all the way .

Wilf is curled up in his bed at the front door whistling gently as he sleeps. The poster boy for old dog contentment. I think he's going to stay in bed but by the time I've picked up the car keys he's standing waiting to go out . That canine enthusiasm for getting the day started . I think of the cold wind outside. He thinks of fresh scents , new adventures and lamp posts that need christening. He may also be thinking of his illicit, now routine, half croissant .

The supermarket has set up a new display in the atrium . A mechanical Santa and a trio of grinning mechanical bears happily twisting and turning to the sound of Celine Dions Christmas hits . Quite manic.

On our way back home , Oliver, the old widows dog looks up hopefully from his spot by the front doorstep. No doubting what he's hoping for this Christmas.

  1. Is the supermarket trying to deter customers?
Dear Wilf, nothing can match a contented older dog.
Cheers, Gail (whose young pup Bertie is bouncing around anxious too for his morning walk).

  2. I often wonder who chooses the displays for the stores--Some are so tastefully done, others, well, look better left in the box...

It's heartwarming that Wilf continues to enjoy his days christening and croissants.

  3. Steadfast Oliver. Such a hopeful and loyal dog. He will wait until his own day arrives...

We have had tremendous hurricane force gusty winds blow through Anchorage the past few weeks. Expecting one more, according to our weather forecaster.

  4. Overcast and warm 20C/68F. Last evenings rain shorted out many of the Christmas lights. Damp, dreary. Why does smooth jazz singer Michael Franks' song "I Bought You a Plastic Star for Your Aluminum Tree" keep playing in my head. And by the way, your nemesis star? Shorted out also, we hope.
For us, the only thing to be thankful for is Wilf in fine form.

  6. I often find myself wishing I could give Oliver a big hug!

Our weather sounds a lot like yours today, although we don't have quite that much wind. Still no snow here for us!

  8. I think for this Christmas Wilf should get a whole croissant?! :) Poor dear Oliver, that just breaks my heart. Let's hope peace comes to him too. Stay warm and dry! And Wilf, you look positively lovely today! Keep on going Wilf, handsome boy!

With love from your Canadian pals,
