Vesuvius erupts.

The ancient oven in the upstairs kitchen finally gives up the ghost . A bang followed by an acrid smell. The lights fuse. At ' the fonts ' urging Angus opens the oven door and looks inside . You'd need to be an archaeologist as much as an electrician to divine the workings of this cast iron Vesuvius . Angus is neither . Time to turn a few knobs and grunt . '' Looks like the filaments gone " said with less than total certainty . The subject of a new kitchen has been re-introduced into our dinner time conversation .

To the supermarket . ' The font ' goes ahead to order coffee and croissants at the cafe . Lifted down from the back of the car Wilf sprints across the car park in hot pursuit . No hesitation . No detour . No uncertainty . A perfectly straight line . How does he do it ? Blind ? Who are you kidding ?

Volume 2 and 3 of the ' Wilf the PON ' blog arrive , freshly bound, from the US. Ten days from ordering to delivery here in rural France . Old PON wisdom . " Do not be satisfied with the stories that come before you. Unfold your own myth ".

  2. We have been tempted to order blog books too. Think a few new book shelves would be needed though ;-)

  4. If you're like us, it's impossible to do one thing without having to do three or four others first -- so a new stove requires a whole rethinking, right?

    Hugs to Wilf!!!

  6. oh! wilfee among the bright blue and green chairs looks like a little abstract painting. to think he ran through the maze. amazing!
what a wonderful thing, to keep all his and digby's stories in books.
the adventures with the old farm house go on and on....
it has a life of its own! so much more exciting than a brand new house where everything works. no! truly not being facetious.
love and hugs to that precious, famous wee bear.

  8. Oh a new stove is definitely needed! Have you ever considered publishing a book for the general public about Wilfie? We'd buy at least one copy.

  9. What do you mean, "how does he do it?"!
    He's the miracle dog!

    Those books are a treasure.

  11. All three of the volumes of the blog look so nice!

We inherited a stove in the basement (where, apparently it was much cooler to do the canning every year) that weighed almost as much as an elephant and had a cracked oven door. Getting that thing out of the house was a job! I don't envy you getting rid of Vesuvius!

Apparently the functioning nostril works quite well! lol

  12. One doesn't need eyes on familiar paths.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy

Obviously the one nostril is working well.

  13. I don't think it's the filament. I think it's the frazistat. That's what I always say when I can't figure out what's broken! :)

  14. Looks like a great stove. The new ones can't compare to these in their prime. Wilf is wonderful as usual.

  16. You can't just replace the stove? Not that another whole new kitchen wouldn't be nice :) Maybe the old farmer across the lane will buy the old stove; he seems to have an eye for antiques, especially if they need repair.

Wilf is living proof that what we love most, we hang on to longest and hardest. Of course, so are Angus and the font.

  17. That's really cool you got your blog printed out in book form! I doubt I'll ever do that with mine, it's not that exciting!

One of these days I'd like to go back and read your blogs from the beginning to the present.
