A quiet day at the rickety old farmhouse . Wilf spends most of his day sleeping , rousing himself , briefly, to bark at the post lady . Aude the decaratrice is here bright and early . She's accompanied by an unsmiling friend from the Womens Cooperative who's come along to do some plastering. Does that make her a plasteratrice ? I keep this thought to myself . The plasteratrice is wearing a pale pink tee shirt that sports the slogan : " You've got your first wish . Now , what are the other two ? " .
The phone remains obdurately silent all day . However, no sooner is the steak on the stove than it rings . While I chat to ' the font ' the kitchen fills with smoke . Steak transformed into shoe leather . Unperturbed , Wilf looks on from his vantage point by the dishwasher . He gets some thin slices of this charcoaled offering with his kibbles .He demolishes everything with lip smacking fervour . As any PON knows : " Years may wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul " .

Every time I see you write about your decaratrice, I read it as dominatrix. Maybe I was beaten with a curtain rod when I was a child! :)
ReplyDeleteWilf looks especially happy in these photos. Were they taken after the steak, perhaps?

Bet the font will be pleased at all the progress in the farm house while she's been gone. Did Angus get the red geraniums planted in time? Wouldn't want to be the cause of the village failing to win the prize! Of course, the village should get extra points if Wilf is artistically draped over the door sill during the judging.

A wise dog indeed! I'm reading 'A Year in Provence' by Peter Mayle at the moment and I'm not sure which I'm enjoying more, your daily accounts of life in France, or his!
ReplyDeleteA lovely weekend to you - good luck with your cullinary exploits! (Or perhaps not - failure on your part would mean more snacks for our hero!)
Best lip smacking enthusiast ever!!! Best smile ever!!!! Looking wonderful Wilf! Love from Southern Italy Susanne Daisy and Foxiie
ReplyDeleteOver cooked steak? Are there not laws against such a thing in France?
ReplyDeleteYou send me to an online translator a lot.
ReplyDeleteToday I looked up Profonde and found out it means "deep." I also looked up font and I think it must be in another language than French because it translated to "are." I can't imagine you calling your wife "Are." But maybe that's a common name in France?!
Are you laughing at a certain persons cooking skills, dear Wilf? It's good to see you laugh!
ReplyDeleteWilf definitely is an experienced practitioner of Enthusiasm; absolutely no wrinkled soul there! His fluffy handsome charm will be giving the village an edge over all those Wilfless villages!DBH
ReplyDeleteWilf is smelling the steak burning and thinking "more for me!!"
ReplyDeleteIf Wilf got the steak, what did M'Ongoose get, I wonder.
ReplyDeleteWhat a testament to the love of the Font.... to forget a juicy luscious steak is cooking... whilst chatting merrily away. Ah love... Happy weekend to you and Mr. Wilf!
ReplyDeleteI needed Wilf's wisdom today! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing dogs aren't as picky about cooking as we are! It allows them to enjoy a lot more!
Thank you for sharing Wilf with us. You are both very inspiring. Our older dog has a serious/nontreatable condition and reading your blog encourages us to make the most of what time is left.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Wilf thought that even though the presentation was ruined, he wouldn't think of firing the chef!
ReplyDeleteWhen you are a dog steak is steak, and it doesn't matter if it is served blue or charred as any opportunity for steak is something to be savoured, morsel by morsel as fast as you can swallow it! However it seems Angus kindly added to your enjoyment by filling the house with additional smokey aromas and sizzling sounds.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
Woofs,
Riley
