Time for everything.

The fog has finally lifted . This morning we're greeted by blue skies and bright sunshine . Perfect weather for an old , blind Polish Lowland Sheepdog to explore the riverbank . Kingfishers , finches and wrens darting round him as he feels his way carefully , paw by paw, through the shallow water. The old fellow exudes quiet canine contentment . Mud and scents . What better start to a day ? No reason to hurry him along .

It's late by the time we make it to the bakers. Croissants all gone . The pre-breakfast beer and absinthe crowd now sunning themselves on the bench outside the town hall. Their places at the cafe taken by young mothers and a noisy gaggle of pre-schoolers . Wilf settles down under the table with his bowl of water and regulation piece of croissant . The waitress laughs. The pre-schoolers wave at him . He concentrates on his croissant .

To the greengrocers on our way back to the car . The first of the seasons Corsican tangerines . Fresh and juicy . The owners wife tries to interest me in the Kakis that have been delivered that morning . I never know what people do with them . Wilf sits on the pavement while we talk . As old PON's know : 'There is time for everything '.

  1. 1 December - the perfect day for a Corsican tangerine. There was a fish in my advent calendar window today...

  2. There certainly is time for everything! Kakis also need their time too. I've had them when they weren't ripe enough and to me they have a very tannic, astringent quality that quickly and intensely dries out your mouth. But I've also had them in a pudding cake and sauteed with pork tenderloin.

  3. Lovely Wilf - so happy to have such good news from you - Kakies are very good for the joints - make some jam with Stevia - (sugar is toxic and leads to dementia!) and give some to Wilfs coconut ice cream... love from Southern Italy where my tangerines are ripening - lovely juices to drink - Susanne, Daisy and Foxiie

  4. I have no idea what you do with a Kaki, either! It sounds like a lovely and relaxed morning to me, though!

  5. Kakis are always showing up in chutney. And depending on the variety, in salads. Don't eat the skin or try them when unripe or you'll cringe whenever you set them again. They seem to be used more frequently at Christmas time here.
Could they be culinary challenge for the great and glorious font?

We love how there is always a piece of croissant left for Wilf. Sweet kindness.

  6. It sounds absolutely wonderful there. We are in the midst of a snowstorm, and you are sitting outside for breakfast! Finches, wrens, sunshine, fall leaves - Yes, Wilf is right - there is a time for everything.

  7. I cannot believe that you still have leaves on your trees! We haven't had leaves since October. I am jealous! However, moving along....Wilf is right, there is a time for everything, at any pace. Keep on going darling Wilf!

With love from your leafless Canadian pals,
Dianna along with Tor, Willow and Tucker

  9. Glad to see Wilf getting some sunshine. I had to look up Kaki, persimmons. My sis freezes the (mushy)Japanese ones to eat like ice cream. Do dogs like them?
