The best toy for a blind dog.

Day three and Wilf is still infatuated with his latest toy. In fact our morning walks are cut short so that he can rush back home to sit on the lawn and play with it. The object of this attention ? A hard plastic ball that makes different animal sounds whenever it's touched . According to the packaging it's a ' virtual zoo that interacts with your pet '. The thing is supposed to make more than 20 noises but Wilf responds best to the lions roar, the puppy bark, and the monkeys screech . He sits there with this electronic menagerie between his paws, head back, tail wagging, emitting his best high pitched play bark and acting like a six month old . It's wonderful to see him pushing it backwards and forwards as it talks back to him in its myriad of voices . The ultimate toy for a game of hide and seek with a blind dog. To stop him chewing the thing to bits ' the font ' has now put the ball in an old pair of my rugby socks . " That way he'll be able to find it whenever he wants " . Swedish humour at its best .

  1. Oh what a lovely image with which to start the weekend. A happy Wilf, a well chosen toy and an old rugby sock. (We are wondering how long since the socks were actually used for their original purpose.....!?)
    Cheers!

  4. So the Rugby socks haven't been washed?

Good to hear he's playing again. We've missed the rug surfing and swing biffing.

  8. Oh what a great idea, well done The Font. Ahhh I bet it is a delight to see Wilf so happy, bless his little cotton socks.....(get it!) You could always smear some of those lovely sausages on the outside of it and then he'll always be able to find it! Sue x x x

  9. This is just pure genius and you are right, it could not be a more perfect toy for Wilf! I just wish I'd thought of it, and I'm sure you wish you'd bought two!

  10. That practical Swede!! Lilly has a toy that jiggles and talks when it is dropped - she only gets to play with it under supervision as it would never survive that terrier mouth otherwise.

  11. Big happy tongue, and squeaky toys...does life get any better? I just love the happy Wilf stories. I hope he has many stimulating play times with the ball. Hugs coming your way.

  12. Cisco played fetch through her blindness - we stocked up on balls with bells in them. We couldn't throw them far, and had to make sure to keep them in a fairly straight line, but it made her so happy to be able to play the game. After she passed I took all of the balls and tucked them away - they were good memories of her and her happiness. I think Monty might like that ball, I will have to keep an eye out for it.

  15. Tee hee! I shan't comment on the ease of locating the ball in the socks! It did give me a good giggle, though. I am happy that you found something that keeps Wilf so entertained. Doesn't it just impress you how easy it is to make our dogs happy?

  20. Fantastic toy! Although we always wonder how the human definition of 'durable' can be so different from the doggie definition. Do the humans test these things on actual dogs?
