A supermarket PON .

The last night before ' the font ' returns . Nothing in the fridge and the supermarket closed . Time to head off into town for a beer and a pizza . The restaurant full but the waitress shows us straight to a small table by the bar . The benefits of dining with a miniature white polar bear . Moments later the chefs Yorkshire Terrier wanders out of the kitchen and greets Wilf like a long lost friend . The tourists look at this canine rendezvous in horror. Wilf , oblivious to the discussions about hygiene going on around him , settles down for a doze under the table . Every so often I reach down and tickle him behind the ear . At the end of dinner he gets three small pieces of pizza crust as a reward . He smack his lips . An English lady glares .

Nearly nine months into a journey that was supposed to last three days . It's time to stock up with all those ' dog ' products we never thought we'd need to buy again . The last of the Zymox ear cleaner has been used up but a new, hastily ordered batch arrives , just in time , from the States . At the vet store a picture of one of Wilfs cousins on a packet for a tick collar . I laugh out loud . Wilf is proof positive that the old phrase " Believe you can and you're halfway there " is true .

  1. We think kids are much more unhygienic and they let them in!

  2. Hey there Mongoose and Wilfey,
It's so heartwarming to see that you are still chugging along so nicely. Life in France never has a dull moment, it seems. Hope you get stocked up soon and that your refurbishing is almost complete...huh? never!
I've been busy - unable to do much visiting, but you guys aare one of my first point of calls. I think of you often in your journey. So happy that Wilfey is still enjoying life the way he does :)

  4. So glad to hear that somewhere in the world they have their priorities right. It would be fun to see the snotty English lady's face if the chef sat Wilf at the table complete with a napkin tied around his neck.

  5. Preferential treatment for Wilf at the pizza place. Well naturally, no more than a celebrity PON might expect!

  6. Not all English ladies are averse to dogs in restaurants - this English lady loves to see them and in fact I have been known to take my own dog for lunch with me - slightly awkward as her nose is just at plate height !!

I think our beloved wee polar bear should be written up in the journals of veternarian miracles! you have mixed the perfect loving care with zen and happiness and true living.

  12. I would enjoy having Wilf as my dining companion anytime, anywhere. He could give my younger niece and nephew a few pointers on how to behave in public too. ;)

  14. Oh, pizza bones are a big favorite here, too. I would enjoy visiting your dog friendly area a great deal. Phooey on those uptight tourists!

I hope 'the font' gets home safely with no problems!

  15. I too wish we in the states would be more dog friendly! I would love to take my two dogs, Harry & Bella, out for pizza and I am sure they would love it too.

As for Wilf, I hope you have many more boys nights out!

  16. I'm so glad Wilf's journey continues! Wilf's (and your) blog is the first I read daily, and even on vacay I check in via the blackberry. I have always called Louis my "little polar bear", and I do believe he and Wilf are kindred spirits! I've never seen a PON in person, but I've told the boy that we must consider a PON for our next pup :) I'm so glad that you live in a place where pups are welcome everywhere!

  18. They've been the sweetest and most glorious 9 months that I can imagine. Yes, Wilf is an inspiration.

I've missed your blog. I loved the upside down photo of Wilf in the grass! Lots of grins at that one from across the ocean.
