The locum and sore knees.

Wilf is in fine form. After a week of solid, Orkney type rain, the sun has returned and with it his irrepresible
zest for life. As soon as he heard me putting on my shoes he was downstairs at the front door ready to get outside and chase squirrels.

The dry weather also means that we can segue back into our morning routine. After a walk round the light industrial park we settled down at the cafe for our morning cup of coffee and bowl of water. Then it was off to the butchers for some chops . The butchers shop is Wilfs absolute favourite venue and one that even puts the cake shop in the shade. He sits transfixed, staring in serendipitous delight at the sausages and salamis - dog heaven. Then it was off to the spice shop for a bottle of vinegar and a bottle of walnut oil.

Madame Bay is supposed to come in to clean on Tuesday and Friday mornings. In practice this means that she pops in whenever the spirit moves her. This morning , her moving spirit was working overtime, and she arrived just as we were finishing breakfast to announce the she was on her way to the doctors. As Madame Bay has a constitution that would put an ox to shame this was rather surprising and alarming news. 'Nothing serious I hope ?' said 'the font' only to be met with a girlish giggle and the announcement that there is a handsome new locum here for the summer while the old doctor is away. " Il est ravissant!". I'll wager that the poor man manages to last at most two weeks before scurrying back to Toulouse. Nothing, but nothing in his previous medical training could have prepared him for our libidinous septaguenarian and the sudden, and inexplicable, problems with her sore knees.

  1. Can't imagine why Gail insists on reading all that stuff about Madame Bay. Just staring all day at all those sausages would have been good enough for me!
    Toodle pip!
PS So pleased to hear that my pal Wilf is doing well. And please tell him thanks for his comment on my blog, I do indeed think of myself as the David Beckham of the dog world....

  2. Can totally understand Wilf's fascination with the Butcher Shop, but not quite Mme. Bay's with a young handsome doctor. Fortunate for him, it's just sore knees.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella

  3. There's never a dull moment when Madame Bay is around! Was she going to be wearing chiffon to see the new doctor?

  4. It sounds like everyone has a favourite place to visit in your neighborhood this summer!! We agree with Wilf that the sausages and meats sound good..maybe some chicken, they have chicken there? Mmmm!! Purrs, Lautrec and Tiny (Weezdabadcats)

  5. so glad the sun has arrived! here too for a couple days....
that Madame Bay, what a character...can't you sneak us a picture?
    have a great week!

  6. My Scotties would love a butcher shop visit - LOL. Wilf has such a social lifestyle. Surely everyone is glad to see him coming.

  7. Ooh, Petey just licked the computer screen, admiring that butcher shop. Try some crudite dipped in some of that pistachio oil, then dipped in cinnamon salt (I have no doubt you have hundreds of flavors of salt for sale somewhere in your town!) - it's a wonderful starter with a fine glass of pale rose!

  8. That picture of the sausages is suitable for framing. Just saying.

    wags, Lola

  9. My dogs would be insane with excitement in the butcher shop - oh my, I'd rather not even imagine how crazy our R would go!

Funny, our wonderful cleaning woman has a similar approaching, popping in whenever the spirit moves her! But, she hates doctors, even if they're good-looking! I agree - that doc will be fleeing soon!

  10. Ah we feel a television script in the making! Madame and Le Doctor! How many dread diseases will Madame B succumb to? How will le doctor cure her? What sort of nighties will she resort to? Puppies shut your eyes!

  11. Madame Bay! Oh Be-have!

Oh, I can not even begin to fathom how much it would cost me to go into that butcher shop with Blueberry in tow! I'd owe so much money! She'd be sneaking sausages left and right!

  12. Would she react the same way to the vet? :)
Tell her to watch the Spanish goalkeeper in's enough to stir up youthful charms that were long buried....and you only have to pay your TV licence too.
Sending greetings from a rather chilly Johannesburg.

  13. Please remind her that she doesn't need to get naked for the doctor to check her knees! :)

  14. Hmm...I'm surprised Madame Bay is only having her knees checked and not having her annual womanly exam!

I'm finally following your blog now. Not sure why I haven't been following you all along. I've missed a few posts here and there and then have to catch up but now I won't have to miss any!
