" Tu es sage " .

A rough night with Wilf. For some reason his ' diabetic foot ' became inflamed and swollen to near double its usual size. The first time either of us have ever heard him cry .Off to the surgery in the early hours for a couple of shots and an antiseptic footbath . Thank heavens for caring vets who'll start work at day break . The family fellow beamed as the senior partner tickled him under the chin and said ' tu es sage ' . He's now much better and the swelling noticeably reduced although he'll be on a course of antibiotics and pain killers for the next couple of weeks . Wilfs attitude to this mornings adventures ? " Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless " .

Thanks to Suka for sorting out the 404 Error problem and suggesting switching to Firefox .

  7. Poor baby!!! When humans are diagnosed with diabetes -- 1 or 2 -- their paws are constantly being checked. So Wilf's hurting paw is consistent with the disease. But somehow it's worse when it's a dear family fellow who can't speak and has to rely on the physical evidence.

    Our hearts are with you!

  9. Poor Wilf - but such a gallant fellow - taking the good and bad that life doles out but then always coming back for more. And you guys are wonderful - so many people would have given up on Wilf a long time ago - so glad that you are not those people.
Hugs and prayers for all of you.

  11. What a stoic, dear boy. You and Wilf give me the courage to at least pretend I'm perfectly okay with the knowledge that our dear girl - already lost one eye at age 3 to glaucoma - will be just fine, NO MATTER WHAT.

    (And I will be too.)

  12. Perhaps a now and then addition of someone who loves Wilf holding an ice pack to that foot might help even more.

Gentle hugs and tummy rubs to you Wilf!

    Kisses,
    Jo, Stella and Zkhat

  18. first a note to diane, above... do go thru all the archives and even the italy ones... it is so worth getting to know this remarkable family. you will fall in love with digby (wilf's little brother) too!

when you said he cried, i wanted to cry. he has endured so much and stayed so calm. but it sounds like they know exactly what they're doing. (no mean vet tho! i simply don't trust her)
love and hugs to all three today and special tummy rub for wilf,
    tammy j

  19. Poor Wilf. And poor you. Lulu had a similar problem in her leg and it was heartbreaking to hear her cry and be powerless to help until we managed to get her to the vet. I so glad he's on the mend.

  20. Poor dear Wilf. Having once myself had to stay for two weeks on a hospital ward where many humans with 'diabetic feet' were being treated, I am all too familiar with the problem. You will, I think, have to be very very careful with his paws.

  29. Owwwch!...poor Wilf. Thank goodness for the kind vet who helps you all.
Am on firefox here, but occasionally have come across blogger glitches, too. Can be very frustrating when that happens...hope you all fixed now.

Sending doggie kisses to Wilf.. from North Carolina to you...

  30. Perhaps Wilf beamed because he thought you might hear the vet prescribed “sau-sage”. The “sages” are close enough that a dog as wise as Wilf would recognise the opportunity to have his favourite food as his daily medicine!
