Apricots.

The first of the new season apricots in the greengrocers. Can't be long before we see local peaches alongside them . Not that you would know that summer is nearly here from the weather . After the hottest and driest spring in a century we are now beset by winds and rain more appropriate for Machrihanish in February . On our morning croissant run Wilf and yours truly get caught in a sudden downpour . He comes home to sit alongside me in the office , wrapped in a blanket , looking decidedly forlorn . A chew , and the return of blue skies , soon cheers him up. His attitude for a wet day : " One can never consent to creep when one feels the impulse to soar " .

  1. Well that is just the saddest face I've seen in a long time! I hope he got an extra cookie before bed.

  2. Well those apricots are so rosy looking, don't know that I've ever seen prettier ones.
Poor Wilf and that mug of his, he does look forlorn about the whole thing.

  3. We think you mean Machrihanish in June. Or in fact at any time of the year!

  4. Wilf always feels the impulse to soar... Too bad the kitchen wasn't warm after your returm home post-rainstorm. The 'font' will be home soon, Wilfee.

  8. He does look unhappy about being wet. May the sun shine for many more days.

  10. As long as he is surrounded by a nice warm blanket and the love of his family, we know Wilf's day will be fine! But a nice warm kitchen full of delightful aromas and tasty treats wouldn't hurt either.
Goodness, Those apricots! Wouldn't we love to have one right now!
Our thoughts are with the font and the gran.

  11. I was thinking Wilf looked a bit bedraggled in those top two photos! Petey has that same look when I hose him off after a romp on the beach, "Hey, why did you have to spoil my fun?"

  12. Well, at least the water rationing will come to an end! Wilf, I can imagine that drowned PONs are the most pathetic creatures to behold.

  13. i can smell that little fellow from here... a mixture of dampish fur, soulful gaze, rawhide chomping and pon coziness. sheer heaven to me!

  14. I thought perhaps Wilf had a bath.....looks so content with his chew....
Hard to believe Madison is making your paper, when we can't seem to get any press....and when people who live in the state don't know the truth...crazy times, but i'm making the best of it!

  15. Nothing like that wet-dog look to evoke sighs of sympathy from us canine-lovers. All the more when said wet dog is none other than M. Wilf himself.

Of course, yesterday's image of a rain-drenched M. Angus might have had the same effect had we been witness!

  16. They say that 'the most affectionate creature in the world is a wet dog.' I'd say this is true and that no dog is more happy and content than Wilf!

  17. Cosy under the cover Wilf? That's exactly what we do here, when our Mum warms up the blankets in the dryer first!

That being said, I keep having troubles posting comments. So I will try anonymously today and see if this works. Blogger and I just are not getting along!

Enjoy your day and hopefully the blue skies will stay for a bit. Keep on going Wilf, lovely boy!

    Love from your Canadian pals,

  19. Yum, local apricots and peaches. We're not even close to getting those. Please enjoy them for me too!

I had to look up "Machrihanish" - now I get it :) You fled that weather and now it's chasing you. I hope that it warms up and dries out soon, for you and Wilf.

Finally, I was thinking about your comment that the font saw lots of Lady Slippers in Sweden (but there are none in France), and I realized that when you account for our high elevation and Sweden's latitude, the ecology and weather is probably similar for both. So, it makes some sense that the font saw those flowers in Sweden but they're not in France.

  21. My favorite fruits of the summer are peaches, plums and apricots. My dogs thoroughly love dried apricots as a treat. Not too many at one time though!

I also thought Wilf had had a bath. He is so cute!
