Saturday morning

We venture out after dinner to sit on the village green and watch , or in Wilfs case listen to , the pilgrims as they stroll through the village on their way to Spain . An old couple from Grenoble turn off the lane and wander over to him. The man strokes his head, the woman holds his paw. Their dog lasted four months with cancer . The woman kisses Wilf and says ' bon courage ' . Forget what you hear about the French being aloof . You cannot be alone in France if you have a dog .On our way home the fire hydrant christened in a peremptory way . Some routines must never change .

This morning is rugby morning , both France and Scotland playing .( Scotland are playing England - fellow Scots will understand what that means). By the time the sun has risen the parking area by the village hall is full . Young farmers and their offspring are sprawled on the grass in front of the war memorial. Around them a trail of identical Jack Russells walking backwards and forwards , into and then out of , the salle de fetes . Mischief in motion .

I can hear the Marseillaise being sung and shouts of ' allez les bleus '. Time for Wilf and yours truly to grab some champagne and head over to join everyone else .

  1. Dear Wilf
Daisy, Kendra and Bella all suggested I should come over to yours to watch the rugby (Gail being and England supporter). Is it too late? Can you arrange for Angus to put some of his better bottles of champagne on ice, and for the 'font' to be busy in the kitchen preparing some tasty terrine or something? It would be much appreciated.
    Toodle pip!

  3. Sounds unbelievable compared to Southern Italy - mischief in motion as well...
Hope Wilf enjoys the Rugby as well - there will be something to eat of course.
Bon Courage and have a great day - Love from Susanne, Daisy and Foxiie (he will take to the hot thermal water baths for his hip... sitting in a bucket not being able to escape)

  5. The champagne must have tasted rather like vinegar to your French friends.

As a welshwoman I am cheering for Scotland this morning. It's now half time and you have the required 6 point lead. Long may it continue ......

  6. Commiserations Angus and Wilfy. At least you don't have to share a house with a gloating Englishwoman who keeps on pointing out how much more they would have won by if Jonny had been on song with his kicking....

  9. It seems similar almost everywhere. A sweet dog allays any aloofness that people might normally display. Bon Courage, Wilf.

  10. I wonder if the Scotland / England match is similar to a Yankees v Boston Red Sox baseball game. Have fun, and Cheers!

  11. I don't know where my other comment went, but I stated the England v Scotland match must be similar to a baseball game between the NY Yankees (my team) and the Boston Red Sox!

    Cheers!

  13. Oh Angus, Scotland...and France. Too sad.

I do believe that Wilf could melt the hardest hearts. All of us have never seen him but have become totally captivated by him by seeing only his photo! What it must be like to see him, really see him, and plant a kiss on that amazing black nose. Heaven! It's got to be heaven! All of our love.

  15. I could not agree more with the comment from KAri, we have never met your beautiful and funny dog Wilf nor Digby but I feel each time I tune in as if I know him like my own dog. We hope that you have many more days Wilf with Angus and the Font.

Take care and thank you for always making us smile.

  17. I do not know where my comments go with my actual name...blogger is strange sometimes.

I hope that Wilf is comfortable and that you are enjoying all of these special moments. He is such a special dog. I feel as if I know him and I only do through this blog. There is something about his special smile and zest for life, as with Digby too!

Thanky ou for letting us all share a part of Wilf and the late Digby's adventures. Prayers and hugs to Wilf.

  18. What a beautiful dog Wilf is! Enjoying your blog and photos. :)

I had a very perplexed Flo wondering why I was screaming at the telly yesterday during Scotland v England. She was also none too impressed at being dragged out for a 'quick time march' during half time rather than her usual 'full of sniffs' walk. Shame about the result but it was a good game wasn't it!

Will continue to check in on your blog with interest.

    H and Flo
