Yesterday, winter finally arrived in France profonde. The skies remained obdurately grey, the wind blew and an occasional flake of snow would make a brief, lack lustre appearance. For Wilf there was only one place to be - the kitchen. He watched completely entranced as 'the font ' made a chicken pie for lunch . Each ingredient savoured, considered and approved. Through it all we were treated to his best ' kindly remember that I'm here ' orphan dog routine.
After much encouragement and the use of the magic word 'croissants' he agreed to leave his warm spot by the stove and come with me into town . A few days ago he was able to leap up into the back of the car but now he has to be helped up. A little reminder that we should all be enjoying every day to the full. At the bakers a new delight. The woman at the cash desk came outside to where Wilf was patiently waiting and gave him half a meringue. Half a brandy snap last week and now this . Bliss.
I hope its just the cold weather that's keeping him less active..whatever it is..enjoy time to the fullest as you have been..
ReplyDeleteStormy..
We are happily imagining a contented Wilf with crumbs of meringue in his beard...
ReplyDeleteGail and Bertie (whose beard gets all crunchy with snow when we venture out at the moment)
Wilf! that NOSE is killing me.
ReplyDeleteWow Wilfee, a meringue !!! I can imagine your face when the lady came and gave it to you, and your eyes plenty of gratitude, she knew you are a gourmet, of course...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy this new day sweet boy, hope you will have a piece of the delicious chicken pie.
Cuddles and bisous beloved Wilfee.

Meringue! Awesome reward for making the trip in the cold.
ReplyDeleteWhat a face! Wilf's says it best when he says nothing at all.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and Love,
Janelle and Maggie Mae
Next to the stove is a fave dog spot here too! We have an Aga, a UK invention as I understand it, and R doesn't move from his spot right next to it in the winter.
ReplyDeleteMeringue - what a treat. And, you and Wilf are the best example in the world of enjoying each day to the fullest.
I have found that the right look and maybe a smile will get you anything (usually).
ReplyDeleteStay well.
Kitty hugs,
Mandu
I know well that "I am a starving orphan" look! I have learned to look down at the kitchen floor while cooking so as not to topple onto a small (or large) dog waiting for a morsel to drop.... they are so neglected!
ReplyDeleteMy soul, I saw that same orphan dog face just this morning at my breakfast table. The resemblance, and the intent, is uncanny. It was all to do with cheese here though.
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
Vilfee, you are irresistible!
ReplyDeleteAAAhhhh... meringue - you lucky pup! But we know it is your irresistible adorableness that the cash desk woman was not immune to! Enjoy that kitchen warmth, dear pup!
ReplyDeleteHugs xoxoxo

Cute pups get the best treats you lucky little fellow. I guess we can just call you a "foodie". Everywhere you go people are wanting to feed that cute little face, enjoy the attention, your Mom and Dad are savoring the memories!
ReplyDeleteIt is sometimes hard to decide which to do when there are rewards in staying and going--Fortunately Wilf always gets to ejoy the benefits from both!
ReplyDeleteWe're getting our first snow of the season here, but we have considerably more than a few flakes!
ReplyDeleteIt warms my heart to read of how many people show Wilf their small kindnesses in his twilight. When he departs, he will leave a huge hole in many hearts!
I wonder if the cold weather makes any difference to how he's feeling and his activity level.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to get lots of treats where ever you go, Wilf. I think it's because you're so well loved by everyone.
I wish today was the first day of winter weather. We've had tons of snow already and it's snowing outside right now.
We're so glad that every day not only is a present in itself, but that you're getting little presents of food, attention and love. Now that's the way to celebrate Christmas - and life!
