The most affectionate creature in the world.
It rains all day . Wilf is in one of his ' let's ignore the weather ' moods . In a break in the downpour we head along the lane, down into the valley and back up the curving road that passes alongside the field of ten day old calves . The new mothers glance at us nervously . Every bush, road sign and tuft of grass sniffed and , when needed , christened . By the end of our walk both dog and owner are drenched .
When we get home a sodden Wilf barges through the door and rushes straight into the kitchen . There is roast chicken in the oven . Angus follows along behind with a pile of towels. Faced with 18 kilos of enthusiastic dripping PON ' the font ' wonders out loud why it is that the most affectionate creature in the world is a wet dog ?

A good long walk. Just what everyone needs!
ReplyDeleteWilf looks so happy in your second photo, but I wonder if you should be concerned the "the font" no longer views you as "the most affectionate creature in the world"? Perhaps you need a "man to dog" talk with Wilf to see what his secret is in making all who see him care so much about him (even when he is wet).
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree re: the second photo - what a joyful affect on the old fellow! We had rain here today also, but hounds aren't thrilled by rain; Wilf looks positively rejuvenated - I'm sure the roast chicken helped the homecoming.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why wet dogs are so affectionate--But I've found that the right moment to shake the water off is determined by how close you are standing to them.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing in the world like a cuddle with a soggy doggy....that smell....!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't know, but when wet, dogs are at their most affectionate. of course, in your case, it's probably more so with those lovely food smells.

Lovely photos of Wilfee, he seems so happy !
ReplyDeleteI wish you all three a peaceful and wonderful Friday.
Bisous to my sweet boy, amitiƩs to you, Angus, and the Font.
Hurrah for the nose of the dog!
ReplyDeleteAdorable Wilf - you all had a good day and that makes us happy.
ReplyDeleteMy zoo is fantastic - woken up by two dogs and while they are out - 2 cats sit on my bed to say hello and have a purr competition. Life with pets is the best.
Wilf we love you - you look dashing. Love fromSouthernItaly Susanne, Daisy, Foxiie, Mickey, Dandy and Leopoldo (criminal cat - occupation thief)
Wilfie you are just scrumptious!! We are glad you felt good, and up for a walk.

Hello Angus,
ReplyDeleteIt's Eurodog. I have made several attempts to post a comment via my send you a comment via my blog google account but no luck so here is what I wanted to say:
Ozzy just loves chicken in any form or shape. The left overs in the rubbish bin are equally attractive. Sunny day here today. just off for our walk in the forest.
Might all the failed attempts have gone through anyway? I hope not because they all say the same.
ReplyDeletecan't stop smiling! a perfect end to my week, seeing wilfee laugh and walk so far!
ReplyDeletemy second favorite smell in all the world is the wet fur of a best friend...
the first favorite... soft rain on parched earth.
have a scrumptious weekend you three!
love,
tammy j
Your post brings to mind a poem by Ogden Nash:
ReplyDeleteThe truth I do not stretch or shove
When I state that the dog is full of love.
I've also found, by actual test,
A wet dog is the lovingest.
How wonderful to take a walk with a faithful family dog, in *any* weather.
Greetings from the Green and Purple Magpies and Mitzi the Dog in wet and drizzly central California
We find the same thing at our house. Wet dogs do seem to want to give us more love than ever!
ReplyDeleteRoast Chicken!!!! Ooh so good!!! We hope coconut ice cream followed!
ReplyDeleteRain or shine, get out there and get moving! Let's hope the weather doesn't keep you indoors this weekend. Keep on going Wilf!
