Two old dogs .

' The font ' returns . Wilf is so overcome with relief he doesn't even bark . Instead he trembles with joy . A tail wag which starts at the tip of his nose and soon takes over the rest of his body .

Oliver , the labrador , continues to lie on the widows doorstep waiting for his master to come home . It's more than a year now since the old man died and still he waits . The local farmers all stop their vans to say hello . Each time Oliver sits up , wags his tail, and then settles down again . A patient '' I know I'll see him soon " look on his face.

Just two old dogs but the same irrepressible love.

  2. Dogs don't let death get in the way of love when it comes to their humans. We humans are the same when it comes to our dogs...

  3. We had an old dog, like your Oliver, on the doorstep next to our place near Tarbes, commonly referred to as "le chien qui dort". Then one day he wasn't there.

    And there was Greyfriars Bobby

  4. I've forgotten the story of the old labrador but he looks very handsome in the sunshine

  5. No doubt he will. no doubt that dogs all hold a bit of extra wisdom we are still uncapable of grasping.

  6. Oliver and Wilf are alike in that they both have someone that they lost much too soon, and are waiting to see them again.

  8. And here I thought the two old dogs you were referring to we're you and Wilf. No offense! Oliver is your own version of Greyfriar's Bobby.

  10. That's exactly why we love them so! They don't bother with artifice or pretense, they just show you how they feel.

  12. Oliver reminds me of the story of Hachi. He looks well. Lovely scenes in today's post. I can feel the warmth of the sun. Happy weekend to you all. I must admit when I saw the title of your post I thought you were referring to yourself & Wilf!

  13. The story of Oliver touches my heart but makes me very sad for him. Yet, you don't sound sad so perhaps he is content lying in the sun with hope in his heart.

I was glad to read that yesterday didn't hold anymore disasters. I loved the description of Wilf's happiness upon the font's return.

  14. KB - I think that Oliver is as happy as an old dog without his master can be . Nothing too sad here . You will see from the photo that his waistline benefits from the local famers stopping off and sharing their morning baguette with him . Yes, this could only happen in the deepest, deepest recesses of France Profonde ! In this dog loving part of the world Wilf is not the only dog who gets treats.

  15. Such a sad but happy story! For both old dogs. The time comes often too early, for we have 2 out of 3 dogs that are elderly and it breaks my heart for when the time comes....they are all so connected. But chin up, and keep on going Wilf!

With love from your snowy Canadian pals,
Dianna along with Tor, Willow and Tucker

  17. Perhaps Oliver isn't so sad anymore, he looks forward to his meet-ups with the other old farmers who stop by for him. If he gets a puddle of sunshine to sleep in and some munchies in the morning, its probably a good day for him!

    Cheers,
    Jo and Stella
