First light. Out for our morning walk. Suddenly, the days are getting longer. At this early hour the hedgerows are alive with chattering crowds of pheasants and quail. We stop to look as they run first this way, then that. Natures ever squabbling neurotics . A solitary jay with topaz wings ignores us as he hunts for worms under the canopy of leaves. The unscripted tempo of life in this forgotten corner of the world. Simple sights and sounds - a reminder that somehow France is different.
Later this morning the house will be full of workmen. Furniture to be shifted, pictures taken down, dust sheets to be hung. Ahead of their arrival Wilf has taken up his spot in the kitchen. Somehow he already knows that there will be fresh tuna for lunch and lamb for dinner. There is a hint of that " too much of a good thing can be wonderful " look on his face. One happy, hopeful boy.
I am always filled with renewed hope when i come here. Thanks Angus. My love to the fluffy one.
ReplyDeleteI guess if you live in a part of the world where the tempo is unscripted, it's no surprise if the workmen appear and disappear at whim. Eagerly awaiting tomorrow's post and the report of progress on house renovations. Or not.
ReplyDeleteAt least we can confidently predict that Wilf will enjoy his tuna and lamb.
Cheers! Gail.
"Too much of a good thing can be wonderful"
ReplyDeleteAnother saying to add to my repertoire of Wilfisms for which I shall be forever grateful !!
Happy new week Wilfee, hope this one will be plenty of happyness, love and touch rugby playing.
ReplyDeleteYour words concerning the nature around you are simply beautiful Angus, very touching. I like when you said those simple sights and sounds make France different, if this, could continue... (i really doubt).
Bisous and calins to the boy, and good evening to you Angus and the Font.
Just thinking this morning that the morning light is later...just a few minutes a day, but noticeable. It's a great time to be out. Hope the workmen come to work and haven't left some vital piece of equipment 'back at the shop.' Also hope they remember a packet of biscuits to share with Wilf.

Orange breezes & topaz birds...la vita bella!
ReplyDeleteHugs from us for your happy, hopeful boy! Enjoy the warm winds from the mountains, we are waking up to -14 degrees F here in upstate NY.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and Love,
Janelle and Maggie Mae
Orange breezes sound so nice right now!
ReplyDeleteYou left out the joy of workmen and jaffa cakes. Or have Wilf's tastes become too sophisticated for jaffa cakes now?
Hints of spring - I'm jealous. Orange scents from Africa and topaz wings sound wonderful. Wilf does look eternally hopeful in the kitchen photo. I'm glad that he's happy.
ReplyDeleteAngus, your lovely prose transports us, we're along for the walk, sniffing that blossom scented air and hoping we'll be invited to stay for lunch...and maybe dinner too?
ReplyDeleteThe musings of Angus always warm my heart.

MAXMOM IN SOUTH AFRICA
I truly enjoy the views of snow-free ground! It will be months before I can step out my front door onto dry terrain. Sigh. Please give Wilf's tousled head a good rubbing from us.
ReplyDeleteI too like to take place in the kitchen and hope for deliciousness to come to me! But again, I have to find room in the kitchen with all of the canines! I love the fact that Wilf has taken his spot and is waiting for the delighful dishes to be served up!
ReplyDeleteWe too are hopeful that spring is coming soon, sadly we are about 3-4 months away from that still.
Keep going Wilf! Handsome boy....
With love your Canadian pals,
Dianna along with Tor, Willow and Tucker
Lovely post - always appreciate Wilf's wisdom and your way with words, Angus. You are making me love France when I have never traveled further than Hawaii.
ReplyDeletei love that first picture of wilf from your morning walk. he seems so content looking for those birds while the wind blows through his fur. :)

I hadn't realized it until just now but the days are getting longer here too. I get up early for school and on my drive there last week, it was still dark and I could see the moon. And today it was bright without a hint of the moon.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing way to start your day and in the company of a treasured companion makes it that much more enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteI hope all the workers showed up as promised!
I am so glad that Wilf is enjoying another day of wilfiness. I think of you all often and breathe a sigh of relief as each post tells of another day of reprieve. I recently found this link to the short PBS animation. Perhaps you have already seen it as it should be famous among the dog loving set:

Pleased to read that Wilf is having more good days. All the assorted workmen should provide him with amusement, or at least distraction.
