Unctuous sauce.

France, home of gastronomy. While 'the font' heads off shopping, Wilf and yours truly head off across the car park towards McDonalds. What better way to perk up an ageing Polish Lowland Sheepdog ? We're in luck. This is the day the French President has come to visit the Airbus production line. As a result the food court is almost deserted. The usual hoardes of workers corralled behind security barriers, flags in hand.

For twenty five years the font has tried to instil in us all the view that McDo's are not a healthy eating option. This of course means that a vicarious thrill floods our souls whenever we pass one of these illicit eateries. Wilf listens intently as I read out the ingredients. Pain aux grains de sesame. Viande de boeuf. Cheddar fondu. Sauce Onctueuse. He licks his lips. " Sauce Onctueuse you say. Sounds like fine dining to me ".

We sit outside. Chunks of McFarmers now way up there, together with coconut icecream, in the PON pantheon of delights.

A pit stop on the way home. These days a break scheduled, religiously, every two hours . Wilfs concentration interrupted by a friendly horse that wanders over to see what he's doing. Wilf turns and gives it his " Blimey ! How about some privacy round here " glare.

Fish, potatoes and peas with his dinner time kibbles. He sits licking his lips. "All that needed was some unctuous sauce and it would have been perfect ".

A good , laughter generating day.

  1. I am worried that the horse seems to be standing on Wilf's back in that third picture. Surely a bit much for the poor old chap.
    Toodle pip!
Bertie (who is yet to experience the joys of McDonalds, having a 'font' like spoilt sport human carer).

  5. We'd rather have Mutant sausages thanks. Actually, first impression--before reading--was that they were serving horsemeat burgers!

  7. We also enjoy an artery clogging lunch at McDonalds every once in awhile! I also chuckled at the McFarmer burger, which we don't have here in the US, but McDonalds does sell one that they have named after you, 'The Angus Burger!'

  9. I am always curious about what McDonald's is serving in other countries, because it's always different from what we have here. My good friend in Sweden is always talking about some crazy special sandwich or another over there, too! The McFarmer is news to me. I hope Wilf enjoyed it enough for both of us!

I think unctuous sauce must be good stuff! Good thing Wilf really wanted it so you'd have to break down and have a little!

  11. Yummmmm, never had McDo's but if the food critic likes it it must be super-good. Another good day for Wilfie, I can feel the love and respect generating between both of you. Kisses to Wilf.

  13. Wilf, our mom, like the font, scorns Mickey D's food -- except when we're in the car off on a long ride and she suddenly gets a craving for chicken McNuggets. Not sure if they're on the menu in France, but when hot, they'll tickle your nose for sure. Since McD's usually have a patio, they're perfect for the outdooer dining that is the only thing available to us here. So yes, we have had our share of thrills. But not that sauce onctueuse...

  17. I read a line of poetry this morning that reminded me of you and the family fellow:

    "for everything that's lovely is
but a brief, dreamy, kind delight"

  19. McFarmer!?!? Now THAT is a great name for a burger. So glad that it rates up there with coconut ice cream! Perhaps this could become a weekly thing? You just never know..... :)

  20. McDonalds! What a treat. We always claim not to care for it...but we do!
We have seen blood glucose monitors especially for dogs. Animal validated meter and test strip adjusted for blood cell size. Do they not work? We know your family would have one if they did. Guess we're still cross with that vet. Kisses and hugs

  21. I'm assuming that's the same as a Big Mac in the US. Although we have 'special sauce'. I think I much prefer unctuous! :)

  22. I know it's not healthy but I do enjoy eating at McDonald's. If I could afford it and my waist wouldn't expand so rapidly, I'd probably eat there regularly.

I wish we had the McFarmer. Wondering what that is - a burger, a salad or what?
