' The font ' heads off to the airport at five in the morning. Wilf adamantly refuses to believe that anyone can be up and about so early. He deals with this unwelcome change to his routine by lying absolutely motionless in his bed , pretending to be invisible. His ' ignore them and they'll go and bother someone else ' routine. Miraculously, a second after he hears the fridge door being opened he appears in the kitchen as fresh as a daisy. One family PON reporting for duty and ready for breakfast .
A ten minute drive into town for our morning cup of coffee at the cafe under the arcades. I open the tail gate, ready to lift him down, only to be met by the sight of the family fellow, on his back, snoring gently away. He's still like that when I return from the bakers. His thought for the day : ' Few of us write great novels; all of us live them '.
We all need our beauty sleep!
ReplyDeleteThe sound of the fridge door opening. The world's best pick-me-up.
ReplyDeleteI can just picture it - Wilf "hiding" because it was too early! Our elderly standard poodle was the same - would curl up with his paws over his head if he didn't feel up to a walk, convinced, presumably, that he was invisible.
ReplyDeleteGood for Wilf - let him snore !!
Not an early morning dog, then. Maybe you'd better swap your coffee and water.
ReplyDeleteWilf is certainly novel.
XXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella
Adorable Wilf - you are certainly my Mr. Dog-Knightly in this tale - FoxiieDaisydogtailwishes from the South of Italy to our favourite polar bear Susanne, Daisy (as fresh as her) and Foxiie
ReplyDeleteThe refrigerator door gets me every time too....
ReplyDeleteDear Wilf - you are a truism - love your saying of the day! And we agree on that fridge door biz - we're at the ready too, regardless of what we might be doing LOL!
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs xoxoxo
Sammie, Avalon and Ozzie
The fridge door or crinkly sounds of packages being opened, no matter how quiet, get us every time. It's the old "shave and a haircut, two bits routine!"
ReplyDeleteWe have been summoned at 4 am when early flights are in the offing and we also find it a silly human habit to get up so early.
Jake and Just Harry
Wilf, you make me giggle!
ReplyDeleteI had the same thing this morning--Up in the middle of the night to let one of our crew outside, the others sound asleep until they heard me open the kitchen cabinet. How I wish I could hear that well!!
ReplyDeleteWell it must have been the early morning wake up that wound Wilf on his back, snoring in the morning light! Yes, that must be it! As for the opening of the fridge door, oh yes, at our house too it happens! We only just sometimes have to walk into the kitchen and you turn around to have 1-3 dogs with tails gently wagging, hoping for an extra treat or something to fall off the counter. The cats are in cahoots with the dogs, they knock things off the counters only to have the dogs swoop them up! Tricky beasts!
ReplyDeleteKeep going Wilf!!!
With love your Canadian pals,
Dianna along with Tor, Willow and Tucker
You are a brilliant writer, Angus.
ReplyDeleteYou and WIlf start my every morning, with a sigh.
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading your blog - I second what Pamela Terry and Edward said!
ReplyDeleteOh Wilf and my Braxton should meet! He won't even leave the warmth of the bed for morning walks until I summon him by rattling the wind chimes..signaling him I am finally ready to harness him up and he won;t have to wait for ME !
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say..someone in Utah love Wilf and prays for him daily..may all the trials he has endured guide us {humans} in how to lead our lives..and thank YOU so much for sharing your time with Wilf with all of us...
ReplyDeleteWilf is living a best selling novel for sure! :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings and Love,
Janelle and Maggie Mae
Wilf and Lilac should get together! Oy! 4:00 comes early every morning!
ReplyDeleteI always like your quotes, but today's is one of my all time favorites!
The question now is when the scent of buttery, warn baked goods reached your nose, did you open your eyes and ask for a bite.
ReplyDelete(We are all allowed to "sleep in" every now and then, love.)
Angus wrote, "One family PON reporting for duty and ready for breakfast."
ReplyDeleteCan't be skipping that breakfast now, can we, Wilf? Given the wee morning hour, your family fellow is just as committed as another PON named 'Snoopy,' as in the YouTube video 'Snoopy the Polish Lowland Sheepdog wants his breakfast.' No trugles, though...
Wilf

i'm with Wilf, getting up early is for the birds!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, one of my chihuahuas likes to lounge in bed and pretends he can't hear me calling him when I've gotten up a little too early for his taste. The other chihuahua usually gets up with me.
