The rain lullaby.

The torrential rain continued all day. Heavy, power shower, Pyrennean rain that cascaded off the roof in uninterrupted sheets. Wilf would make an occasional saunter outside to christen the palm tree but for the rest of the time remained firmly, and immovably inside.

Madame Bay has had the flu. After a weeks asbence she reappeared at the kitchen door looking for all the world like a large, agitated wasp. Black leggings, black knee length dress, a yellow woolen scarf and a turban the colour of burnt saffron. " Just look at the mess in here ! " her cheerful greeting as she set about dealing with the scars of the New Year. Wilf chose to ignore her as Yves Montand and the sounds of the 50's was cranked up to full volume on Radio Nostalgie.

'The font' is determined to use up the freezer full of food left after Christmas. Bacon, sausage and eggs for lunch, prepared under the watchful eye of the family gourmand. There would have been a time when a sausage would have caused Wilf all sorts of digestive problems . Now with a cortisone plated stomach he can munch away on anything. A cold sausage, a kiss on the head from Madame Bay, laughter aplenty. Time to fall into an unburdened, rain lullabied sleep. Even the bad days can be good. Wilfs attitude : " It doesn't matter how slow you go, as long as you don't stop !"

  6. No word on Wilf's latest tests? Carpe sausage, Wilf. Had not heard the "Princess Di" poem before, but it's pithy and to the point; just what is wanted in a poem one might actually memorize and share at a dinner party.

The first company to develop a reliable home test for animal diabetes is going to make a fortune. Diabetes is rising in both cats and dogs; don't know about other animals. Animals, like people, need to be able to test their blood sugar several times a day to regulate medicine, dosage, diet, etc. Unless one is a vet or is married to a vet, it's simply not feasible to haul one's diabetic pet to the vet several times a day for a blood test. Americans alone spend Billions with a B on their pets each year. More American households now have pets than have children. So, Angus, if you get a chance to whisper in some bigwig financier's ear, maybe you could suggest there is serious money to be made in home diabetes tests for pets. Someone needs to do it.

  7. Wilf's motto was the same one I had while driving home from work last night in the snow. I hope he's feeling better and I'm glad that Madame Bay has recovered as well.

  9. Are you sure she really had the flu, or was she spending the week on the mother ship?

Wilf, sausage for any meal you choose sounds alright to me! I wish I could live by all your mottos, and so does my waistline!

  13. Oh goodness, we had to revive our human!
She nearly choked on her lunch when she read about the agitated wasp! Absolutely hilarious!

Wilf we hope you are having a nice gentle day with titbits a plenty.

  14. Can you blame the old boy? Would you want to get all those lovely curls wet? Even Miss Betty our Corgi chose her blankie by the fire over a good Pembroke romp in the rain.

  17. Now, I ask of you, who would want to venture any further than necessary when there are sausages aplenty in the kitchen? I would remain firm as well. Glad to hear the boy is keeping close to the hearth! Keep going Wilf!

  18. I’ve heard of the “slow food” movement to counter fast food and a fast life. Now Wilf appears to be leading his own variation of this with the “slow dog” movement - taking time to really enjoy and savour each moment and experience, instead of rushing through his days.

Enjoy your rain lullaby sweet Wilf, and thank you so much for reminding us all to notice the slightest of things that we so often rush past.

    Sending you love and woofs,
    Riley

  24. Keep up that positive attitude, Wilf! Thank you for sharing that with us.

Enjoy the sausages, too! We are experiencing sunny and rainy weather here in our part of the world and listening to raindrops can give such a comforting feeling.

We are happy to see your photo today!
