Airing what needs to be aired.

The postal system continues to intrigue. A solitary copy of The New York Review of Books was delivered at some time around five o'clock yesterday afternoon. Our first delivery in a week. The strange thing is that it comes at a time of day when the local post office is well and truly shuttered and all the staff long gone. We're left wondering who delivered it and where all the rest of the post could have got to ?

Wilf spent much of his day sunbathing on the terrace. Perfect basking weather. Clear skies but just a hint of a breeze. A good day for getting on your back and airing those parts that need to be aired. The old fellow even manages a quick trip in the car down to the stream for a paddle and a drink. The journey back, all of a hundred metres, too long and confusing for him . ' The font ' despatched to bring the car down to the water side . While waiting for his chauffeur service he lies patiently in the cool grass, listening to the chatter of the water and the rustling of the willows. He's happy. ' Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience '

  4. Funny you should mention your postal system. I had a Christmas card returned just yesterday that I had mailed to you in mid-December!!

  6. South of France sounds a bit like Italy - with the workers and the postmen... We had once 2 months no post and all the private letters thrown away - remembering going to the postoffice standing in front of my letters but NOT being allowed to take them... hilarious when I remember it.
Wilf - your family is so wonderful - special meals, wonderful tickles, driving service, and so much more .... love from Southern Italy Susanne, Daisy and Foxiie

  7. Maybe you have one of those mentally unbalanced postman. You know, the ones who have months of undelivered mail stashed in their houses. Have any of the people near by gotten their mail? Perhaps a neighbor got your NYROB by mistake and brought it by.

As long as Wilf had an enjoyable adventure and was not distressed, that's all that matters now. You are surrounded by the love of all of your friends, dear Wilf. You are in our prayers, as always.

  8. The mystery of the mail is intriguing.

Glad Wilf is feeling peaceful (and is getting treatment similar to what our diva Halle has become accustomed) !! The terrace looks like an inviting space to spend time.

  10. Wilf is a very smart dog. And after a hundred meters, there really isn't a need to travel. Both the hint of a breeze and the passing of time will bring new scents to his nose.

And he now has learned that going to ground will bring about the car.

Those are some rather nice tiles in the background of Wilf's photographs.

  13. Thank goodness for the internet. Nothing much of any importance arrives in my mailbox anymore. And our mail lady has real "attitude" anyway.

  15. It's illegal to tamper with the mail here in the States. Surely it's illegal in France, too? I'm curious to know if you've been to the post office to ask about the missing mail.

Ah, Wilf, life is good when you have people to wait on you!

  18. Probably the lone mail was delivered to a neighbor who kindly dropped it off! My heart goes out to you and the font. I know the lingering sadness you are in for only too soon with the loss of your dear friend. Having this time to enjoy his companionship a real treasure for sure.
