It was all going so well

Just a quick update. Digby has collapsed - temperature is 40.6. Off to the emergency room.

12.30 update - Two hours on the vets table. This mountain is proving just too steep for him to climb. He has developed diabetes, the disease has started to recur again destroying his red blood cells, his hepatitis is worsening and there are signs that his organs are weakening. He's fighting like blazes and he's not in pain.

His family will be arriving tonight so we're bringing him home for such time as is granted. I wish for him what I wish for myself - to go surrounded by familiar faces and with happy dreams of puppyhood before my eyes.

One observation. Wilfs demeanour has changed totally today. He knows.

We are so so saddened by this turn of events and can only send you our tear-filled thoughts and prayers that this last time, if that is what it is, will be peaceful.

Angus, thank you for keeping us updated even at these awful moments. You're never far from our thoghts and that will continue. Wilf, like you, will need his own time to grieve.

  12. I am so sorry. It has been such a treat to read about Wilf and Digby each day. They live across the ocean, yet it's as if they are in my neighbor's backyard. I was so relieved the past day or two to read that Digby was coming around. He's a fighter, but I guess even champs go down for the count. Hugs and kisses to Digby and Wilf. My best wishes to you, too. This has been a hard battle, but you gave it all you've got.

  18. My heart is breaking for you. I've been in your shoes and they are miserably tight with nowhere to go. My prayer is that he remains in comfort and passes in the arms of those who love him the most. Yes, Wilf knows, he knows. My son raised a brother and sister years ago. When Patrick passed, Angie mourned but as only dogs can, she began to embrace life after a time and lived to the ripe, old age of nearly 16.

Please know that my heart is with you and the prayers for you have no end...

Because of that, I would like to comment again and say to you how very, very saddened I am that Digby's triumph (and yours) over this horrible disease is not to be...While I continue to hope and pray for a miracle for Digby, I also pray for you and the Font and your family to have peace in what I know are broken hearts.

  71. pee ess As a Human Regitered Nurse, I have seen absolute miracles..Perhaps selfishly(since I lost a young one recently and recoil from more pain of another beloved leaving)I will pray for a miracle for Digby to stay.
That being said, as I have read over much of he and his brother's lives, what a very lucky boy he is to be one of "the boyz" My mind tells me his brother his brother knows, my heart hopes for all of y'all that as bad as it looks.......well , for a wondrous recovery.
We only wish we had gotton to know y'all sooner.
I repeat, to be surrounded by love is a gift. And hearing is the last sense to leave us. Even if one thinks a human, dog, cat, horse, etc is so uncomprehending on the outside, they do hear(as I have been told by humans) I have no wish to cause you more pain by posting again and you do not have to put it up to be seen. I hope I have not caused anything but what is in my heart. Love and hope. However things come out.
God Bless all of y'all. A kiss on Digby's head and a whispered well done boy I send to him.
    Jamie
