Rarest of all

At some time in his life Wilf learnt that he should sit down and remain absolutely stock still whenever he sees a camera. To make life even more difficult for any would be photographer he will only agree to have pictures taken from his 'best' side . It's as if we're sharing our lives with the reincarnation of a truculent 1950's Holywood matinee idol. Very occasionally it's possible to capture him in motion while he's stalking his favourite soft toy 'du jour'. Today it's the stuffed cow , yesterday the yellow baboon was the sole focus of his attention. Here , to prove that he does move are those rarest of all animal action shots - Wilf on the prowl.

  1. Our camera plays music when it turns on. We can hear it no matter what SHE does to hide the sound. We stop whatever we are doing that is worthy of a photograph and sit in front of her.

  2. Angus, how nice to hear that some humans actually value it when their dogs move in front of the camera. Gail is always trying (and usually failing) to get me to sit still when the dreaded box appears. SO BORING.

  3. And the rest of us have the opposite problem - when the camera comes out the dogs go ballistic!!

  4. Handsome boy! Good job Angus at catching Wilf at play.

  5. Hey there Mongoose
All these adjustments are so, so hard! The photographs are particularly challenging. I hope you are being gentle on yourself during this transition, that the grumpy Calvinist is finding his footing! Try writing about it...its hugely cathartic!

  6. Wilf: you must bounce around and keep out of range of that flashy box thingy that your human carries around trying to get you to look cute. I do everything possible to make the picture blurry--ha. But then they catch me sleeping.

  8. Tee hee! If you want a dog that ALWAYS moves when the camera is on, I'll be happy to send Blueberry over for you! We call her "The Bobblehead." She can never sit still, even when she's trying!

  9. Woooos! That is funny with us it is the opposite,I see camera, and look the other way, unless there is cheese involved!

  10. Consider yourself fortunate, Angus, that Wilf knows how to "strike a pose." My Tootie, being only 7 months old, is faster than my little point and click camera can handle. Consequently, I get a lot of shots with a black blur, shots with her back turned, or shots of her little rear end. Lots to delete from my camera! We enjoy all of Wilf's pictures.

  11. Great photos!!! K is starting to have the same tendency. No matter where we are, if she sees the camera, she poses... So, now, we are like a comedy routine with me trying to sneakily take out the camera without her seeing me so that I can get "action" shots.

  12. Wilf on the prowl and even blurry! I can't begin to count how many of those blurry shots fill my camera!!!

If this continues, you may have to share a video with us -- especially if there is a puppy involved!!!

  13. As a retired canine model, I too know how to hold a pose indefinitely, especially when I know a tasy treat is available. I'm also a very fast runner, as well as low to the ground, making action shots a bit of a beige blur.

  15. My little dogs won't sit still and pose for the camera but they don't pay attention to it either.

  16. Apple is almost impossible to photograph. She is resolutely uninterested in the process, and is so black, that it's often difficult to tell which end one is photographing anyway. Edward, on the other hand, loves to have his photo taken and will sit, posing elegantly, forever.

  17. I love action shots, and what a lovely setting for taking pictures!! I have found that in taking pictures of our pups there are some that photograph so beautifully and love having their picture taken--I think Wilf is in that category, as was your beloved Digby. But some dogs however, are like me and avoid the camera at all cost and take terrible pictures!! I hope your week is going well, and many thanks to you for the well wishes you've sent!

  19. At least you can get a photo! Scout and Freyja run from the camera like arrows shoot at them when I depress the shutter!☺

  20. OOOOO, AHHHHHH.... the most rare moving Wilf! Thanks for sharing the rare siteing. National Geographic must be contacted!
    (aren't dogs funny)
BTW, as an RN, to keep up my license 20 CEUs (continuing education units) are required to renew. Some are very expensive, some more affordable.(After 9/11 we had to take bioterrorism-required.) CEUs are usually up to the individual. Well I just recently took one on addictions/treatments/etc. They broke down percentages of countries in order from most to least for alcoholism. Do not wonder why you see
the early beer, wine drinkers anymore. France, largest percent of alcoholics, and least likely to seek rehab. It isn't funny, actually, but I laughed my head off after having read your France blog now.(BTW-I have read your Italy blog and this one straight through after it came to my attention.) THAT, Angus, is how interesting your writing is. You need to write. You paint word pictures and that is a gift.
I read over on Caryl's blog what you and Wilf do in the morning. Not such a hard Calvinist after all. I get it and it is good for you(in my opinion) Uh, any word on pups???? My familyis Irish on Daddy's side and Scotch on Mom's. The clan of Gunn(I think) I do know the tartan colors. Are you Scotsman by birth?
    OK, Time to go.
Thinking about y'all in Texas. So hard and so recent for you. you never get over it, but you learn to live with it.
    God Bless
    Jamie and the Texas sundogs

ps your other blog about the world market... I would like to read your take on it now. (I lost alll my retirement with what they call the "recession") If Greece is in the shape it is in, can alll the countries be far behind? Except perhaps China. Would love to know your opinion on these things...

  26. What I like to do is try to get out of the frame altogether before her slow digital camera actually takes the picture. She gets so frustrated.
