Update on Digby.

With Digbys temperature hovering obdurately close to 41 yet another visit to the vet - the third in 24 hours. More cortisone injections. The tests show that his kidneys are continuing to function normally. However, sadly the blood tests also show that his auto immune system is still destroying red blood cells and causing liver damage. This happens in only about 5% of cases.

After another troubled night this morning we've carried him downstairs and placed him on a soft rug by the front door where he can watch his big brother and breathe fresh air. That way he's where he'd want to be - at the centre of everything that's going on. He's sleeping more and more and becoming less and less interested in what's happening around him. We'll go back to the vet later this morning to see if there is anything else that can be done.

Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and prayers. They have been heartwarming . Doubly so as they come from folks we've never met and yet who still take the time to care.

  1. Let's hope he moves into the 95% category soon. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella

  2. We care. It's one of the miracles we've discovered as we entered the blogging world. The attachments are intense -- both in joy and in sadness. We all hurt when one of our pals hurts.

We so hope Digby pulls through.

  4. Hi, I am from Singapore. I hope that Digby will receive my far away get well hugs n kisses!

  5. Sending lots of positive thoughts. and keeping fingers crossed for you all.

  6. i hope the little guy can pull through this....a blood transfusion is useless since his body is destroying the RBC's....i'm a bit surprised they didn't hospitalize him, unless this is your choice....oxygen would benefit him.....oh, i'm so saddened by this, and wish that i could help in some way...a big hug for you, a big bottle of wine....something....just know for now that i am praying for Dig's recovery....
if you want you can e-mail me.... (i'm working today and can ask the docs some questions...)

  7. Jake of Florida is so right!!! I would never have thought it was possible before, but you do indeed find yourself being worried and caring about a pup (or person) you've never met. With Digby, I do feel as if one of my own pups is ill, and I am so hoping and praying that he will quickly regain his health and strength. Please post again soon and let us know...

  8. I couldn't sleep for my worry over Digby. He was in the front of my thoughts all day. How I wish I could do more than pray. But I am doing that, constantly.

  9. still think transfusions would buy him time until the steroids flatten the immune response....
start looking for donor dogs over 25kg!

  10. I have been so concerned about Digby and your family. This was the only blog I've checked so far and I see that he is just hanging on.

My thoughts and prayers continue to be with all of you and it is my fervent prayer that Digby will be able to make the hardest decision of all, if it comes down to that.

    Hugs all around,

  11. I am very distressed about Digby's lack of progress toward wellness; I cannot imagine your distress. Prayers cont. for Digby and all of you. From Missouri, USA.

  12. I checked for updates all afternoon and evening, the last one was after 1 a.m. this morning! While the news is disheartening, it was good to hear from you concerning sweet Digby. Many friendships are formed throughout the cyber world which just goes to show that people all over the world care about one another. My very best wishes go out to you, the Font, Wilf and Digby at this time...may Digby have a full recovery!!

  13. I so hoped that this post would be different. I am thinking of you and my heart is hurting for you... BTW, kks has helped me before in veterinary crises so you might take her up on her offer just in case the experts where she works know some special tricks.

  14. We are sending many prayers, thoughts and good wishes your way. Your blog is one that I visit every day because your boys always bring a smile to my face. I love seeing those little brown eyes looking up at you with such trust and love - they are truly special. 20. I linked to you from The Booker Man's post about you today.

It's so hard to watch our pets when they're ill and/or in pain. They can't tell you what's wrong, only that something is wrong. I had a kitty who was sick all of his life so I have great empathy for you. I hope Digby's condition turns around for the better.

I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
