With Digbys temperature hovering obdurately close to 41 yet another visit to the vet - the third in 24 hours. More cortisone injections. The tests show that his kidneys are continuing to function normally. However, sadly the blood tests also show that his auto immune system is still destroying red blood cells and causing liver damage. This happens in only about 5% of cases.
After another troubled night this morning we've carried him downstairs and placed him on a soft rug by the front door where he can watch his big brother and breathe fresh air. That way he's where he'd want to be - at the centre of everything that's going on. He's sleeping more and more and becoming less and less interested in what's happening around him. We'll go back to the vet later this morning to see if there is anything else that can be done.
Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and prayers. They have been heartwarming . Doubly so as they come from folks we've never met and yet who still take the time to care.
Let's hope he moves into the 95% category soon. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

We care. It's one of the miracles we've discovered as we entered the blogging world. The attachments are intense -- both in joy and in sadness. We all hurt when one of our pals hurts.
ReplyDeleteWe so hope Digby pulls through.

ReplyDeletei hope the little guy can pull through this....a blood transfusion is useless since his body is destroying the RBC's....i'm a bit surprised they didn't hospitalize him, unless this is your choice....oxygen would benefit him.....oh, i'm so saddened by this, and wish that i could help in some way...a big hug for you, a big bottle of wine....something....just know for now that i am praying for Dig's recovery....
ReplyDeleteif you want you can e-mail me....

Jake of Florida is so right!!! I would never have thought it was possible before, but you do indeed find yourself being worried and caring about a pup (or person) you've never met. With Digby, I do feel as if one of my own pups is ill, and I am so hoping and praying that he will quickly regain his health and strength. Please post again soon and let us know...
ReplyDeleteI couldn't sleep for my worry over Digby. He was in the front of my thoughts all day. How I wish I could do more than pray. But I am doing that, constantly.
ReplyDeletestill think transfusions would buy him time until the steroids flatten the immune response....
ReplyDeletestart looking for donor dogs over 25kg!
I have been so concerned about Digby and your family. This was the only blog I've checked so far and I see that he is just hanging on.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts and prayers continue to be with all of you and it is my fervent prayer that Digby will be able to make the hardest decision of all, if it comes down to that.
Hugs all around,

ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to watch our pets when they're ill and/or in pain. They can't tell you what's wrong, only that something is wrong. I had a kitty who was sick all of his life so I have great empathy for you. I hope Digby's condition turns around for the better.
I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Booker Man sent me over to offer good wishes and healing vibes. I only wish I could do more. I hope that you take Bunny up on her offer, especially if things are not improving. I'll check back as soon as Blog Mom gets back home and will be crossing everything I've got that the news will be better by then. Hang in there, Digby!

ReplyDeleteWe can't remember now how we first came to your blog but we go hooked fast over the quality of your writing and, also, because the Maman is from France originally and still has familly over there. She's had many a knowing chortle over your comments on life in a small french village, not to mention quite a few nostalgic sighs over your pictures of country stores and marketplaces! (Aah, food, glorious food...)
This latest crisis, however, is very distressing. We are keeping all paws and fingers crossed for Digby and you.
